Anyone Think Josh Howard Would Be A Good Fit For Raps?

Lots of talk about Cuban blowing up the Mavs and because of his disappointing post-season and his most recent comments about smoking weed during the offseason Howard has most likely played his last games as a Maverick.

That being said, 1) would we want someone like Howard? (I would), 2) knowing BC's stance on player character does Howard's recent comments hurt his chances based on Colangelo's standards? and 3) do we realistically have anyone that the Mavs would want in return besides Bosh? (i.e. Ford and others)

Anyhow, Howard would definitely fill that void we desperately need and want at SG/SF and would definitely be one of those pieces of the puzzle we require here in Toronto to be more competitive in the East.

Thought?

I'd do it for TJ and filler.

Why not?

i love howard and he's a great talent. i just wonder if he's the crunch time scorer that we desperately need. if we had jose, Bosh and howard, who would demand the ball in the dying seconds of a close game? who would impose his will on the other team? he's not a killer instinct kind of guy.

I'd love Howard on my team. I mean, what's the worst he did? Smoke weed in the off-season? Who cares?

In order to get Howard, It would tkae AT LEAST TJ, fillers and us taking on a horrible contract (ie - TJ, Rasho and something else for Howard and Dampier)

The guy who might (although I don't think he'd be) be available would be Michael Redd. If my off-season additions included a tough, rebounding 4/5 (who doesn't require touches on the offensive end), a swingman and Michael Redd, I'd be very happy.

I think Michael Redd's price tag will be higher then Howard's.

Yeah, Redd's tag will be a LOT higher.. that's why I think Colangelo would seriously look into trading Bosh. He's their best trading chip.

Hey Doc/Jay/Lang.. can we open up a thread (and sticky it) about possible trade rumours/proposals (that we come up with..)?

As much as I like Redd and the volume scoring he would bring...Howard is more the slasher and complete player of the two and I think would be a better fit. Perhaps we could get a 2 guard in the draft and have Parker start one more year and groom that player if we got a Howard for SF. Moon to back up Howard and Kapono used at least 20mpg somewhere in the mix. That could be effective. Then we could let Delfino go and keep Joey rotting on the bench in case of major injury issues.

why would Dallas pick TJ, when they had Harris and gave him up? There's nothing we have that they want right now - so it's useless to even think about howard ...

Wish it were true coz there is no way we could get Howard. They have a pg (remember )and TJ didnt want to play 2nd fiddle to Jose. Imagine being stuck behind Kidd. They have a Centre albeit with a lousy contract. Can't see any way on earth of us getting Howard.

I could actually see this happening, I'd do it for TJ easily.

Because they probably regret trading Harris seeing as the experiment with Kidd failed miserably.

Yeah Kidd will be gone next year and theyll need a replacement.

As much as I dislike Howard's playoff performance issues maybe a change of scenery will help that. He'd be the perfect swingman for this team.

i'm not so sure thrills. we need a crunch time guy, not just an athletic swingman with talent. do you think Howard is that guy?

Problem is coltrane, is who would be available/could be pried away from a team with the talent we have?

If it takes Ford and some fillers for Howard, I'd do it in a second. He shows that he can score, he's a former all star, athletic, good defender..

i hear ya hoops, the options are slim. i'm just saying that TJ for Howard wouldn't be my first choice. it looks great on paper, and we really need a guy like him on the wings, I just think that if we don't get a guy who wants the ball at the end of games and can close out we're doomed no matter who we bring in.

Good point. Howard may or may not be/become that guy, but really we want Bosh to become that guy...so getting a good complimentary piece like Howard that could be the occasional 'closer' and getting Bosh to focus on developing that part of his game could be an effective way to go.

I like the Redd idea too..he has that ability to make big game winning shots, but isnt' a primadonna that wouldnt' be willing to share the spotlight with Bosh.

good point SWAN, but can Bosh actually be that guy? Here's the obvious rebuttal:

[SJ] Bosh IS A F@#KIN' PUSSY! HE CAN'T CLOSE GAMES! HE'S TOO THIN AND HAS NO BALLS! HOWARD DESTROYED HIM IN CLUTCH GAMES! HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY THINK THAT Bosh CAN BE THAT GUY GOING FORWARD! YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS AND I RULE THE UNIVERSE 'CAUSE I PLAYED BALL[/SJ]
