Antoine Wright's Postgame comments

Quote:
Antoine Wright calls out Toronto Raptor teammates
Once again, the Boston Celtics punked the Raptors and once again, no Raptor did anything.
This has been a concern going back years now, to when Gerald Green humilated the Raptors (and himself kind of) by throwing down a spectacular windmill dunk in the dying seconds of a game the Celtics were up about 20 points in.
No Raptor responded.

Then Kevin Garnett taunted Jose Calderon by getting on all fours like a dog ... no Raptor responded.

Now Friday night, Paul Pierce disrespected Chris Bosh by not only dunking severely on his head, but also by kneeing him where no man likes to be kneed, and then by staring him down.

Shockingly, no Raptor responded. Just coach Jay Triano. Credit Triano, showing good Canadian backbone, for letting Doc Rivers and the Celtics Pierce was acting like a bush league clown.

But that's the Celtics. Love them, and Celtics fans do despite their arrogance, because they get it done - or hate them, as most other NBA fans do because they are consistently classless.

I'm a big Pierce fan, always have been going back to Kansas, but no reason to do that to a friend and Dream Team teammate. The staredown is just complete bush league.

But the Raptors embarassed themselves again by running and hiding when the big bully that rules their division embarassed them and their best player.

Just my two cents.

Antoine Wright seems to agree,

"You have to look yourself in the mirror and take that challenge because it's a basketball game. Nobody's fighting anybody. We've got guys standing over our best player, flexing, it's not something we can stand for.
I was pretty frustrated sitting on the bench and watching their whole team run out there on the team and we only have our coaches up shouting and screaming at their players.
"I don't like that. (It's) something that's kind of been accepted around here. But I'm going to say something to the guys. It's something that we can't go for.
"We're going to have to come together, or teams are going to just run us over like this.
"We have to say enough is enough."
Courtside - Antoine Wright calls out Toronto Raptor teammates

I don't care if we suck as a team, I'm not happy with my city being disrespected on a regular basis by other teams. We need more toughness, can you imagine something like this happening when Oakley was around. Antoine is as of now one of my favourite players on these team for addressing this

It's not going to change... You think after 17 games, more than a month's time you can't teach a bunch of adults what Toughness is, it won't happen... If you teach a kid that playing tough is critical he would probably understand in a few minutes, but this is more than a month. so it isn't going to happen....

What does that have to do with anything that he said here? Maybe he's forcing his offensive game to set up a spark. Just trying to do something.

Hell, I'd argue he's shown to be our best perimeter defender when he's healthy.

Just for the record - they were pre-game comments. And it's a good step in the right direction. You could tell that Bosh was not happy with the behavior of some of the clowns. He does have to pick his spots though, and it can't be easy with so many new guys. Hopefully they can get their acts together.

You're thinking of different comments (when he was talking about eating popcorn and joking around prior to losing to Charlotte). These comments very clearly came after the game:

so if the players actually stood up and approached the refs after the play doesn't that make them more likely to receive a Tech? and doesn't it cost them money if they do? Well maybe they don't want to lose money..

Good for Antoine.

We'll have to see though whether or not people will heed his words.

I hope so.

I like Antoine, he's a good player, but anyone else disappointed in his athleticism.

He's kind of like Mo-Pete. He's a crafty defender, and is persistant. But he doesn't have impact athleticism.

Which I assumed he had. There's nothing he can do about it though, not his fault.

Yep.

Best thing that we can hope for right now is for Antoine's knowledge to seep into DD's body.

Because if/when that happens we'll have one hell of a perimeter defender.

I don't think money should be the issue here... They're getting disrespected and they need to stand up for themselves... a few thousand bucks will not make them go bankrupt, and technicals are a great way to fire teams up.

Thank you atleast someone is pissed off. I don't get why the rest of the team doesn't do this. I seriously don't; I hope BC can get some guys with balls in here cuz this team is a bunch of pussies. I am sorry but that is the truth. We do nothing, EVER. So far this year only person that has shown he has balls is Jose. Like when he went up in CP's grill. Other then that no one has done anything. I just can't wait any more for Evans to get back into the line-up

Toughness is definitely something the team has been lacking the past few years. With all the changes that have been made (new coach, and a revamped roster) it seems BC has tried everything already... the only things that have yet to change is our toughness and our key players (Bosh, Calderon, Bargs).

Kia4ever: Thanks for sharing the link, but just wanted to let you know that we actually have a rule that we shouldn't quote an entire article/blog... or maybe that rule has been lifted, I'm not sure.

Pretty sure BC would use spell check before he fired Jay and made Antoine the coach

Seeing JT step up for the Raptors was one of the coolest and saddest things I ever say in my life. Where the fuck was Antoine Wright when that shit happened? To be honest I've been disappointed with Antoine so far, seems to me like he played his ass off on the Mavericks cause that was a good team and he could've been in the DLeague any second, on the Raps, he has a little more leverage and tries shooting 3s and crossing over ppl a lot these days. Stick to defense.

antoine and reggie are gonna drag this team into being a bunch of hard-asses or ther'll be hell to pay (i.e. ball grabbing)

we need to get ruthless because the nasty, arrogant teams that win.

Antione should be Demar Teacher and teach him his moves and Defense ; that kid like Traino said himself he listen and he learns from it. Even better yet get Reggie to teach him as well; if our veteran wont learn then teach it to our freshmhan rookie and make him our next Superstar. I think also whats hurting our team is that we have no one (well we do) to shoot constant 3 point to bring us back in the paint like Ray Allen does; maybe somehow we can trade houston and get Trevor Ariza but I know thats never going to happen T_T
