Default Antoine Wright: Burning Down the Doghouse!

Quote:
After mid-December, Sonny Weems began to get Wright’s minutes in the rotation and Sonny provided athleticism and excitement that is not part of Wright’s game.

Fortunately for Wright, Jay Triano must have seen what Wright could bring to the team. Or maybe it was just Weems couldn’t keep up that exceptionally hot shooting he brought to his first few games in the rotation. But, by the end of December, Wright was getting his chance again.

Wright has discovered that shooting less equals more floor time for him, as he has averaged less than four shots per game. And shooting less has helped boost his hit rate to a respectable 44.9 percent from the field. Wright is no longer a liability on offense.
Antoine Wright: Out of the Raptors Doghouse

Antoine Wright has played the best ball of his career in January.

Recently labeled as the most likely Raptor to be traded. Wright suddenly has become an important guy off the Raptors bench.

Not counting players on rookie contracts - Is there anyone in the NBA earning less than $2m who the Raps could have who's any better?

everyone knew about his upside in the summer, and he's finally playing to that potential now.
the thing that makes me happy is that it seems to be more than just luck or a hot streak.... Jack Armstrong mentioned how Wright has been out on the courts earlier - before games - doing shootarounds and working on his shot. And if thats the case, he isnt just having a good-flukey week, he's actually playing to the level we all expected and it wont just be a flash in the pan... it'll be an every game occurance (from now on - hopefully).
over our last 2 wins, he's been the X-factor... not the player of the game per se, but the one guy who probably makes the biggest impact at a specific time, and in doing so helps us win the game.
without his big shots last night and his stellar late game heroics the night before vs miami, i'm almost certain we'd be 0-2.
x-factor wright. yes, really.

The best ball of his career?

He was pretty good from about mid-February on last year in Dallas. Your article also states he was playing limited minutes in Dallas, but 24 minutes is a lot more than the 16 a night he's averaging here.

Certainly his best ball as a Raptor.

He was hit early on with about three different injuries all at once. He would now appear to be healthy.

He's been impressive the last few weeks. Hopefully he can stay healthy the rest of the season + playoffs. Last night after the game Triano said he's becoming a very inmportant part of the rotation.

when was he in the doghouse?

i was under the impression that he was injured and told Jay to rest him for our younger players

ye he's been playing great. I guess people are right when they say it takes awhile for new players to settle in. Just looking back to the beginning of the season, it feels like everyone was disoriented. Everyone wondered if we should blow this team up again, 10 games into the season. Now it seems like each player has found his role. This is great.

pretty sure that's what i remember hearing as well. can't remember if it was during a game or in an article, but supposedly wright told triano not to put him on the floor until he was ready to contribute at 100% when there were healthy players hungry for minutes.

Now that he's hitting his three point shots with regularity i think he would look better in the starting lineup than Sonny. Of course Triano would never put him there because he might get stuck leaving him there for good. He would help the defence in that first unit and maybe we could get off to a good start for a change instead of allways playing from behind.

It's awesome that Antoine is blossoming here in Toronto! I never knew he could contribute this much on both ends. I just figured he was a non shooting version of AP. He's been sticking those shots when we needed it

Correction: Sonny Weems played for his defense and hustle, not for his "hot shooting". And Antoine Wright did not play before because he had constant minor injuries.

I like his shooting style provided he makes the right decision to shoot. He's a good player as long as he's motivated and coached properly.

First half-dozen games in the rotation, Weems was shooting 50% from the field.

And sure his defense is what will keep him from garbage time only minutes. But before this his shot selection was terrible.
