The anti-bust rule

Quote:

Ric Bucher: New proposal would allow teams to send players to NBDL first 5 years of career and reduce pay to pro-rated 75K. Talk about non-starters.
This means that rookie contracts would be nearly non-guaranteed.
I see the positives for teams. Especially cheap teams.

But I think this could potentially delay or even stop Euro guys from coming over...
Especially lower drafted ones, but even Valanciunas and Rubio will have to think about it very seriously.
If you aren't confident you'll succeed right away, why take the risk? 5 years without a fully guaranteed contract? makes sense to sit in Europe, collect millions and wait.
And I think we'd see lower NCAA picks like Nick Calathes choose Europe much more often...

Haven't ya'll ever seen a Blazer game recently? We can't have no D-Leaguer's cuz Blazers be droppin' like flies on rice in a snowstorm.

Someguy again 11-11-2011 11:49 PM

raise awareness and gain fans for the d-league?

Actually create a real farm system? :police:

Windex 11-12-2011 10:14 PM

isn't this somewhat similar to the NHL?

ValanciunasFanboy 11-12-2011 10:31 PM

Idk but NHL guys don't really have an option. Not like they'll go to Europe to play rugby.

Anyway, I've read mixed reports lately. Some say this rule isn't in the final proposal at all, and ESPN + some agents simply jumped the gun based on rumors.

Huh? Even if a guy isn't quite good enough for the NHL he's certainly got the option to play hockey in europe.

A buddy of mine has a friend who's been playing over in Austria and makes close to 100K/yr.

yes, and it's weird-ish.
In today's tweet session, Stern/Silver denied that provision even existed.
Several days ago, some league official said that it exists but only as a "B list" negotiable item (btw, why the heck would someone put a killer provision like this among negotiable, not-so-important B level issues?).
A lot of BS and misinformation going on.

I'm kind of leaning towards believing Stern's tweet on this one.
That provision is too dumb to be true, even for a "B list", whatever the purpose of that.

I wonder who told Bucher this. This basically kills all of his credibility
