Default Another "what if" question....2011 NBA Draft

So I know these "what if" questions don't really mean anything, but with the 2012 draft lottery tonight, it got me thinking.....

Seeing how the Raptors had the 3rd worst record in the league in 2011, if the Raptors had the 3rd overall pick instead of the 5th we actually had.....Would they still pick Jonas?

Kanter, the 3rd pick, doesn't seem like it will pan out...or atleast not anytime soon. Jazz are really overloaded with big men. Didn't get a chance to see Kanter at all.

Thompson, the 4th pick, is a player we didn't need at all considering he's just another PF who plays a similiar style to Ed Davis. Not to mention Davis was coming off a really solid rookie campaign. The fact that Thompson is Canadian and wanted to play for us wasn't enough to BC according to him.

Jonas? Or different direction?

It might actually make us feel better if you think we would've selected Jonas anyways, than this way being pushed down to 5th overall wasn't so bad.

I think he was "their guy" for at least a month or two before the lottery even took place, and by that I mean that he was a prospect that they really believed in, and were willing to take a chance on.

The only other player I could see them taking with that 3 pick would be Kanter, and there were a lot of reasons to pass on Kanter.

I would say that their board last year was 1) Kyrie Irving 2) Derrick Williams 3) Jonas Valanciunas.

I think a lot of teams wanted Jonas, but decided to go with other players because of the buyout issue. If the draft was done over I'm sure he would of gone earlier.

Not really, despite what the poll says, there could be some that prefer Thompson and Kanter.

It will continue for years.... best SF every draft that we had/have the chance. So not JV if there's ANY SF worth a crap.

Keep in mind that BC said he was going to trade our 5th pick to a lower pick if "our guy wasnt there" If you watch the Raptors 2011 Draft you would have seen this part. I believe it was with the Pistons and they were constantly on the phone until our 5th pick. In the end BC said our guy is still there and we are keeping the pick. His reasons was he expected Jazz to pick up JC at 3rd
