Raptors Another Raptors season preview

Quote:
TORONTO RAPTORS

2011-12 SU record: 23-43 SU (34.8%), T-23rd in NBA
2011-12 ATS record: 36-28-2 ATS (56.2%), 3rd in NBA
Odds to Win 2012-13 Atlantic Division: 100-to-1
Odds to Win 2012-13 Eastern Conference: 250-to-1
Odds to Win 2012-13 NBA Championship: 500-to-1

GUARDS
KYLE LOWRY is healthy again and will be handed the reigns. He could be the Raptors best player on both ends of the floor . . . As of now, JOSE Calderon is still on the roster, but he's not long for Toronto with Lowry's arrival. He wonít start over Lowry, but he could see decent minutes as the Raptors attempt to showcase him . . . With Torontoís influx of new talent, DeMAR DeROZAN could be marginalized on the offensive end. He hasnít really progressed past the dunker/raw athlete stage of his career . . . Rookie TERRENCE ROSS can just about match DeRozanís athleticism, and while he has no handle, heís a potentially deadly three-point threat . . . JOHN LUCAS III will back up both guard spots . . . ALAN ANDERSON returns as a defensive stopper in the second unit.

FORWARDS
ANDREA Bargnani makes his triumphant return and will likely go back to the perimeter. The Raptors have beefed up in the middle so Bargnani can play outside more . . . LANDRY FIELDS plays enough defense to earn minutes, but it seems like his signing was more a result of Toronto playing cap games to try to land Steve Nash. Heíll likely platoon with Terrence Ross . . . ED DAVIS made some strides this offseason, but heís still not where the Raptors want him to be on the offensive end . . . LINAS KLEIZAís knee should be in better shape this season. The Raptors want more shooting, and he has a chance to grab a bigger role . . . Toronto will do everything it can to get out from under AMIR JOHNSONís contract . . . DOMINIC McGUIRE figures to occupy the final seat on the Raptors bench.

CENTERS
JONAS VALANCIUNAS would have been the No. 2 pick of the draft had he come out a year later. Heís a wiry, strong athlete whoís physical down low with soft touch out to 10 feet. Toronto sees him as a franchise cornerstone who meshes nicely with Bargnani . . . AARON GRAY should provide ample competition for the starting center job.

StatFox Take: The rebuilding goes on, but Lowry and Valanciunas should improve the club as a whole. But even in the East, the Raptors still donít have a playoff-caliber team. Realistically about 35 wins is their ceiling, and thatís only if guys like DeRozan and Davis take huge steps forward.

"huge" step forward takes us to 35 wins!? crazy talk. 33-35 wins is what this team's talent as of right now should get on an average season.

any huge steps forward would be taking us towards, (and possibly over,) the .500 mark.

Anyone saying 33 wins thinks we're no better than we were last season. IMO with a healthy lineup last season (Bargs missed 35 games, Jose missed 13 games) we could have/should have won 28-30 games in a 66 game schedule. This team is simply better at every position going into this season. This should be a team that challenges to be a .500 team and challenges for a playoff spot.

I think that was written by someone that hasnt seen one game of Raptors basketball last season or this pre-season and is making predictions based on what he read from paper.

There were just so many things wrong in the article.

Hmm, the odds of us winning an NBA Championship are better than I expected.

It pained me to read that. I felt like I was reading an article from two years ago minus all the new names. Derozan hasn't gotten past the raw athletic dunker stage of his career? pulease...

NEED to get out from under amir's contract? pulease..

again, painful to read

although Raps are better the rest of East has improved as well. Nets and 76ers particularly. Knicks, Boston, Miami, Pacers and Bucks will be better than YYZ

Amir is overpaid... His contract should be split between he and Ed Davis going forward. As it stands, they're both ovetrpaid. As for DeRozan, I agree, he was never an athletic dunker in games so it's a stage I hope he reaches!

I think this is the most troll like post ever put onto this forum. made me chuckle.

I mean, you can somewhat argue amir, but you'd be wrong. but davis?
derozan part was just good laughter.
