Another load on Bosh to New York

Quote:

As Bosh previously stated, he has enjoyed his time in Toronto. However, even though the Raptors could offer him the biggest contract, playing for a contender or going to a bigger market would provide an ample amount of publicity for Bosh; more than enough to grab the necessary endorsement money to match, and likely surpass, the amount Toronto can offer.

Watching Bosh’s general demeanor in interviews and on his YouTube clips, you get the feeling that this guy would be happy anywhere he goes—a player who just goes with the flow. But could he end up in New York? Fortunately for the Knicks, a player with his skills and personality would fit right into the hectic city media circus.

While the Knicks might not have the most attractive looking team come next offseason, Bosh still has a lot more to gain (financially) by coming to New York than say, LeBron does. At this point, it is almost impossible for Bron-Bron to get more media exposure. Hell, the guy already has the top selling NBA jersey in China of all places (over Yao I might add). But for Bosh, he still has a huge amount of upside in terms of endorsement deals and publicity. If you combine that factor with the Knicks possibly signing a couple of solid role players in the offseason, you could convince Bosh to give it a shot in New York.

Taking these things into account, I would say there is a 60 percent chance of Bosh playing for the Knicks next season. But, as I stated earlier, this is mostly contingent on New York’s ability to sign a few solid role players

i want the best for bosh, so i think he should go to miami. Unless BC can just find a way to land another allstar?? Kevin Martin, Caron Butler, Devin Harris.....?

TORaptor4Ever 12-11-2009 11:57 AM

What an absolutely ridiculous article.

Yes.... I'm just SURE that Bosh would rather go to N.Y. (a team worse off than we are, with even more brutal media) than MIA where he could play in South Beach with Wade.... or even re-signing with us for max money.

Makes TOTAL sense.

Idiotic.

Miami? If it's a S&T i don't want any part of anyone on that team not named Wade. In fact NY has alot more to offer in the way of talent that i would want.

jeffb 12-11-2009 12:03 PM

This whole he needs to be in a "bigger" market to get more endorsement money is such a load. I was watching NBATV the other day and they were talking about how it doesn't really matter nowadays where you play, you can get endorsement money and your own shoe line and all that shit from pretty much anywhere as an athlete.

60% chance? He just ripped that number out of his gelatinous ass.

Acie 12-11-2009 12:16 PM

It's actually a very well written article and he does make some valid points.

Bmats7 12-11-2009 12:23 PM

Didn't Bosh laugh out loud when one reporter asked him if he'd play in NY?

Windex 12-11-2009 12:24 PM

location doesn't really matter
Manning plays for the Colts, small market team, but you see him on many commercials
LeBron is in Cleveland
Crosby's in Pit

winning gets you noticed and if Bosh feels he can win more games in NY, then it makes sense

you have to understand that journalists are human too.
when they try to argue a point, they will bend the truth a little to support their (pre-defined) conclusion

we should just ignore these articles, I think most raptors fans believe that bosh will stay if (and only if) the team is good enough. What NYK does has no relevance.

That being said, being in NY has 0 relevance for big media agencies. As big as it is, NY is still tiny compared to the US population. All big agencies target a country or the whole world, so in the grand scheme of things NY is not THAT different than Milwaukee.

In fact, the only advantage you get by being in NY is that there's more media coverage for you, which makes it easier to get to the all star and other popularity contests. But there's no money to be made in that. Who was the last star in team sports that made a ton of advertising money in NY?

How about Derek Jeter, A Rod or Eli Manning?

I'd argue that it had more to do with those guys going to great teams rather than anything else.

Winning brings in the ad dollars.

Losing doesn't.... unless you're a hell of a personality like A.I.

No chance in hell that he ends up in N.Y.... unless Lebron goes there too.

how much of Eli has to do with his brother?
If Jeter won rings with another team he would be just as popular
A Rod was big before he went to NY. He signed the $250 mil contract in Texas

what if they take pay cuts

:sigh:

My prediction - Kevin Martin victorious by KO ten seconds into the first round.

:confused2:

wouldn't you rather want what's best for the Toronto Raptors?

Very little at this point. Eli went to New York and was succesful.

The Yankess hadn't won for 9 years until this past season. Where are all the Red Sox, Cardinals, Phillies, D'Backs, White Sox and Marlins players appearing in ads with Tiger and Federer?

A Rod was sought after as a player, what's your point? We're not talking about his baseball salary. Where were all his national endorsements when he was in Seattle and Texas? He had one endorsement deal with Nike and that was it.

lol Kevin Martin could probably put up a fight but not the dude that looks exactly like him!

Anyways Bosh to Miami seems very realistic. Bosh to NY? Very, very doubtful
