Default Andrea Bargnani - improvements?

What do you think so far about him?

still think he's a bust or have seen improvements?

i see good signs

i hope he improves

better defence and blocking shots this year and a little bit better in rebounding

still have alot of work to do but it's a good sign

he needs to be more consistent in his offence

the Raptors really need him to step up for the scoring load

since JO has been struggling and Bosh is doing to much.

He's playing better, but I'll wait until the 20-game mark to really decide. Hopefully, he's able to string some good games together.

I agree he is playing a lot better, I thought his game today against the Bobcats was the best game of his career. He didn't hit career highs in scoring, rebounding, or assists, but it was a very efficient and strong overall game. He drove the basket, blocked shats, stole the ball, and shot a very high percentage. Most importantly his play actually had a huge impact on the game (second only to CB4's monster 30-15 night).

One game isn't a big deal, but these he has improved on noticably over this season. At one point of the game he took a 3 that clanked of the rim. Last years Bargnani would disappear after that. He took another 3 and nailed it the next possession, and continued to play strong defense. If his confidence keeps improving and he stays committed to defense and getting rough in the paint, we could see him consistently getting more minutes than JO all season.

I'm much more optimistic now then I was at the end of last season. I see him starting at the 5 once (if?) JO is gone in 2010.

2 keys to this "impreved" play.
1st no doubt was a successful offeseason. He put on some muscle and has now much more confidense defending the paint.
2nd he is finally used appropriately. Not putting responsibility on him, not making him battle starting centres. Plus having JO or Bosh does indeed open the floor for him to drive or shoot.

What really has improved is our comments. Now after every game we see the positive what he brings, even if production is low, and that is - no negative. He is no more a liability and his game does not depend on jumpshot alone. That doesn't sound much for a 1st overall pick, but it is indeed improvement over last year Andrea.

The biggest improvement for Andrea so far this year is shot selection. His FG% is way up and his attempts are way down. His assists are down too. This all points to him having a less central role in the offense with Jose's emergence as our second scoring option. Also, it reflects the Raptor's emphasis on a high efficiency offense (i.e. if you're not making your shots, stop shooting). This I definitely fully support. I can't stand seeing a chucker dominate the play.

He is getting slightly less minutes, slightly more rebounds, and way more blocks. He has definitely become better defensively. However, it looks like there are still teams that exploit his presence on the court (see: Detroit).

I agree that our expectations are lower, and I think the franchise's expectations are lower also. Now, Bargs is able to establish himself as a valuable bench player. Hopefully things keep going well, he seems to be more comfortable in his role off the bench. I would be happy if he remained a bench player until JO's time with us is finished.

Having said that, I'd start any centre that could provide us with 8+ pts/8+ reb/1.5+ blk and good D over Andrea.
