Default Andrea Bargnani active vs Celtics [06-02-13]

Quote:
After a couple of games where he was ruled out at the last minute, Andrea Bargnani will finally return to the lineup against the Celtics tonight after missing the last eight weeks with an elbow injury.

Correction on my Bargnani tweet: he has not come off the bench since Dec. 29 2008.
While I may not be foolish enough to wipe the slate clean with Bargnani like so many Raptors fans naively do every time he returns from injury or starts a new season, I am genuinely looking forward to seeing how well or how miserably Bargnani fits into this new-look Raptors lineup. I’m also interested to see how quickly he earns his starting spot back. With Ed Davis playing as well as he was, nobody wanted Andrea’s name to be called with the rest of the starters, but with Davis gone, the Raptors’ only options at power forward are Amir Johnson in a big lineup that also features Aaron Gray/Jonas Valanciunas, Rudy Gay or maybe Landry Fields in a small lineup, or Quincy Acy in a lineup that would likely indicate the Raptors are under-manned.

More than anything, I’d like to see how Bargnani looks in a lineup where Gay attracts more of the opposition’s attention. Earlier this season, when Andrea was actually shooting better from three-point range than two-point territory, I often mentioned that he had reduced himself to nothing more than a three-point specialist. Unfortunately, even his three-point shooting eventually tailed off (he’s shooting 31.9% on the season from deep), and the truth is that he hasn’t shot better than 35 per cent from beyond the arc in a season in three years (2009-10), which just happens to be the last time he played regular minutes with a teammate that consistently drew double-teams.

At the very least, with Pau Gasol getting injured last night and the only trade options out there for Bargnani likely players on bad contracts of their own, I’d like to see how he looks in a few games coming off the bench as a second unit scorer.

It’s not ideal, but the circumstances may dictate that Bargnani sticks around until at least the end of the season. If so, we’re stuck in “wait and see” mode yet again when it comes to the “enigma of ell enigmas.”

Can't wait to see how they plan on using him with the new look roster.

He would be a hell of a 6th man if he can work out his shooting kinks from earlier this season.

-Also agree on the waiting till the end of the season. If he plays well the rest of the way, he increases his value and then you look at possible trade scenarios in the off season. Don`t just ship (one of your biggest trade chips) out ASAP just for the sake of making a transaction...thats stupid and quite a few posters on this board have that mentality.

Well, I've always thought he would be better off coming off the bench like he would on any other decent team. I can't say I'm happy to see him back but I'm definitely curious as to how this is going to go tonight.

Bargs played really well. It sucks the Raptors once again failed to close out the 4th. Lowry was terribly disappointing an the 4th.

bargs played well and gelled pretty well with the "new" team
if he keeps this type of play up hopefully he can play a larger role, at least he should be the backbone of the 2nd unit, they should be running everything through him when they are in the game, they should theoretically dominate the opponent on the offense if that happens

I don't know what game you two were watching - he was awful. Dude didn't even know who he was guarding half the time. I was excited for tonight because I have a bad memory. Leo did a good job selling him - either that or he's drinking some special Collangelo brewed Kool-Aid

We have one legit big and that's Amir Johnson. JV's lumbering scares me. He is a teenager... he isn't supposed to lumber. He needs to get huge if he is going to be a lumberer.

ACY = GRAY = Bargnani = JV - we need an upgrade over all of them.

A talent like Gay was needed...but Ed's departure now leaves a far bigger hole in this team then what we had before.

I don't know what game YOU were watching..

-He didn't force his shot
-He passed up open looks, moved the ball
-He contested shots on defence
-He was more aggresive around the rim
-He hedged well
-Didn't sulk

To me it seems like whenever he was on the floor, we played well.

And even if he was a little lost at times in coverage which is entirely possible, are you really going to criticize him after a 2 month layoff in his first game back?

Agree so much. We missed him on the offensive glass for those easy points, missed his rebounding (we should have killed them on the glass 1st half too). Amir misses him for sure. its the major reason I wanted almost anyone else included in the trade. But if that's what it took... that's what it took.

I didn't think Bargs sucked though. His defense on KG was good. He does get lost at times. Really laughed at that one rotation where he ran from Celtic to Celtic then to the glass and then missed the board. someone has to cut and paste that to youtube.
