Especially when the guy made less last season and missed half the season and regressed from the year before.

to me sonny is worth more than 1mill per year. It's the average wage that needs to come down. And have to say, as much as i like amir and barbosa, they are exactly the kind of guys who should be earning less. And then of course if a hard cap is put in place you will have far fewer arenas' and the likes. franchise destroying (or at least putting on pause,) contracts.

i would have sonny on 1.5-2mill, amir on 3mill and barb on 3-4mill. The contracts need to be closer together in value. amir is better and provides more than sonny but not 5 times more and barb not 7 times more.

what you're not taking into account is the availability of bigs.... which is why Amir gets significantly more and deserves more than a very replaceable Sonny. He's just not that good and there are many guys just as capable. Truth is, at least to me, Sonny really hasn't shown all that much more than Julian Wright.

yep, def pretty much agree with you (except the julian wright part!)

But do you see my point about contracts need to be closer together? certainly in terms of the new agreement? Amir is worth more than sonny for sure and i agree sonny is fairly replaceable but then the numbers i gave had amir being paid like twice as much, that's a big difference man!?

you've convinced me to change slightly. sonny think he deserves more than a mill. On current financial sitaution of nba i agree with him, If the new agreement has a proper hard cap and the avg salary really does come down a lot, from the 5mill it is now to maybe 3mill (which i think would fit amir pretty well, do u disagree?) I would then say sonny is worth 1.5mill.

I agree a lot more with that.... though I wouldn't pay Sonny more than a mil... if he wants more, I'd find a very similar player to come off the bench that would take the million or less (maybe a second rounder)

i might have to adjust my argument to "i really like sonny!" lol.

he wasn't great last year, i do agree, and yeah your prob right we could get better value out there but i do have faith in sonny. Also for 1mill you'd be doing great if you got a guy as talented as sonny who was also less raw AND more consistent!? I mean, i'm sure there's a few players like that out there but certainly not tons and there would be competition for such a player.

I get that.... if Sonny wanted a 4 year, 6M deal, then that would be a very good contract..... one that could benefit both sides tremendously.

yeah, think we can definitely agree there. sonny wouldn't take that i'm sure, he prob still thinks he can have a good season somewhere down the line and get a biggish contract.

if he was being realistic that contract would give good finanacial security and like you say would be a good contract for the raps.

my main point was that it's not the contracts of players like him that bug me and that's despite the fact you're right, he had a disappointing year last year. Conversely a player who had a good season last year (amir,) to me is a player (like tons of others in the nba,) who should be on less. you convinced me slightly by reminding me bigs are harder to get hold of and i love amir's attitude but i still think those are the contracts that hurt the nba financial wise. Not the best example of it, but an example.

Barbosa's contract comes from his sixth man of the year Phoenix days..

yeah, sure, not even saying he wasn't worth it compared to other players on around 7mill in the league. he was inconsistent and streaky but also was a good impact player for the raps imo. My point was more along the lines of the possible new agreement and comparing players on 5-10mill with talented bench players on only 1-2mill. Not that everyone would agree sonny is talented!
