Default Amir for MIP?

Quote:

NBA's most improved Nov/Dec to Jan/Feb: Toronto's Amir Johnson. Over 53% in scoring (12.1), rebounds (9.1), blocks (1.7). Maybe MIP of year?

MIP's interesting this year. Amir Johnson. Paul George. Larry Sanders. Earl Clark. G. Vasquez. Different levels of players, different leaps.
It would be great if he could get it

I he's earned the consideration. would have had a partner/challenger in Davis if he wasn't moved for Gay.

Larry Sanders deserves the award I think. He, like Amir, has learned to affect shots(and block a shit load of them) without fouling, and has turned into possibly the best defensive center in the NBA besides KG.

Its great Amir is getting the recognition though, he really deserves it. Its difficult to be loved by the entire Raptors fanbase with how bipolar we are, but he's pulled it off and that just goes to show how amazing he's played this season.

This is undoubtedly going to James Harden. While it might be argued he was always this good and was just never given the chance he has now, one will never know, making him the best choice. All those other players don't even have a chance .

Lol what is everybody here talking about??? Why would someone not following the Raps see any improvement in Amir??? On the year he hasn't even improved statswise, and he probably won't start as many games as he did last year... Most would call that a decline, not an improvement.

I agree us faithful Raps fans have seen him grow a lot, and his stats of late have been terrific, but on the year he hasn't improved at all (statswise that is, and that's what matters). You can't beat Harden who went from a sixth man to a franchise (super)star.

So forget about it people.

because people who make decisions on these things don't look at just stats, ESPECIALLY for MIP. amir's gotten better in so many things immeasurable. and i'm sure dan can find some advanced stats that show his remarkable improvement. and if dan can do it, so can the ones analyzing it.

harden's a chucker, not a franchise superstar. if he were houston wouldnt be hovering around .500 right now

Show me one MIP who didn't or barely improve his stats and still got the award. I don't give two cents about advanced stats, and neither does the average NBA fan. Harden improving his PPG by 10 points, that's what get's you attention. Earning your first all-star selection in your hometown. That'll get you MIP. Not Johnson who's still pretty much playing the same role as he did last year and is still in the shadows.

And for the record, Houston hovering around .500 is still pretty impressive given all the trades, complete roster makeover, the drama with McHales daughter, midseason trade etc. I'm sure Harden has a lot to do with that.

Yeah... I'd say it's probably George's or Vasquez's to lose... although the other guys mentioned (Amir included) have been great.

Scoring points usually gets the voters' attention more than the other stuff.

Agreedů

Been a Raps supporter since the beginning, but haven't bought anyone's jersey yet. Amir Johnson may be the first,he's the symbol for what a professional basketball player or athlete in Toronto should be.

Amir deserves nomination/credit but he won't win it. Amir has always been great in advanced stats. He's been able to get more minutes and not foul as much or as visible as before because he doesn't have to cover for Jose and Bargs' deficiencies.

It's Paul George's to lose. He has really stepped up in the absence of Granger.

Harden might win it. Harden is no chucker. .454 from the field (especially from a SG) is not chucking. You want chucking up shots - look at Milwaukee's back court. Harden's TS%age and eFG% are pretty solid even with the hit that it took by becoming a go-to man.

Paul George. He's taken his game to the next level, his team is challenging for first place in the east including beating Miami twice and he has become the face of the franchise.

harden reminds me of kobe in his prime, except harden has much less tools, and much weaker defence. the only reason kobe was a superstar was because he was up there in terms of ways to score with jordan. harden is a poor man's kobe, and it's hard enough ligisizing having kobe on ur team, let alone a poorer version that doesn't buy into defence all too often.

harden on this team with what he's paid? no thanks. definitely not MIP. he's taking more shots, and scoring more. .454 is a poor shooting average for a guy who only scores.

WOW.

A guy who only scores?

I'm really not sure if you're serious or not. Think a minute about what you just said.
