Amir Johnson: When is enough, enough?

Amir is a warrior and he's been playing admirably and I'm no doctor and I don't know the severity of his injury, but he can barely get up off of the floor when he gets knocked down, he noticably winces and grabs his back quite a lot...so when is it time for him to sit down and let it heal?

Sick, Wicked and Nasty! 01-14-2011 12:47 PM

I suspect if you ask him...it's after the season ends.

I suppose we should be resting him and giving Joey more burn though and wouldn't be against that.

MikeToronto 01-14-2011 12:59 PM

Amir should sit and heal. So should Calderon, Bayless, Bargnani and Barbosa. Follow Peja! :)

he has virtually no lift in his legs, and having been suffering through a back injury for the past few months, it effects everything in your core. Your esophagus, everything, tightens up to protect the injured area, which effects your ability to stretch, twist, and pivot. Which are life and death movements if you're injured, and playing ball at breakneck speed.
With some back injuries, there's no risk of re-injuring it. It just kind of stays stiff, and all it needs is some gold ol' rancho relaxo to get better. which is suspect is the case with Amir. If it was something debilitating involving any sort of disc or nerve trouble, he'd be on the shelf indefinitely.

You get the sense that this team really is trying to go for that playoff spot.

Indeed. Why?! Beats me, that's for sure. Perhaps BC's extension is predicated on the team making the playoffs or at least appearing to make an effort to do so? I hope not... :(

Players is one thing, but i was speaking more from an organizational point of view. I mean when a player is clearly hurting, management has every right to tell him to sit his ass down for however long it takes for said injury to heal.

I think the trainers and team doctors are in a better position to decide that.... Amir is apparently dealing with a muscular issue which are generally treated more lightly. Who am I to say he should sit?

I like that management doesn't want to settle for being a joke. I'm certain they are not threatening Amir to play either. This management franchise has been pretty player friendly, but sitting players for every minor injury promotes a soft culture.

It's a delicate balance.

fancylad 01-14-2011 02:20 PM

ya sure. I'm not debating that carp. I'm just of the school of thought that if an injury is keeping you from playing at your normal level, you should probably sit and heal until you can get back to that level or close to it.

carp 01-14-2011 03:22 PM

I think he should rest tonight..... if they rest him, I'll know that I'm right.

Ex2k 01-14-2011 03:35 PM

Sit him down for the last 2 or 3 before the all star break ...

that should give him what.. a full 2 weeks almost to rest?

Thug 01-14-2011 04:37 PM

Yeah, he should rest the last game before the all star break, so he will be getting like a full week of rest.

fresh n' spicy 01-14-2011 05:45 PM

he should retire

He Can rest during the All-Star Weekend?

J-Roc 01-14-2011 05:50 PM

We should be trying to make the playoffs and trying to win every game. However, as management who understands we're not winning a championship this season, we should be resting every injured player for one more day extra from when they actually feel good. Running Jose and Bayless out there injured never made sense, and this Amir thing also makes no sense.

LX 01-14-2011 06:40 PM

one thing that has pissed me off a few times over the last couple of weeks has been Amir getting knocked to the ground, and then getting helped up by an opposing player. How about some love from his teammates?

I'm pretty sure the team knows how bad or serious it is and if it was something that could become a big concern over the future, I am sure they would but they are not that far out of the playoffs and the injury probably isn't a big concern. It might just be a soar back and we don't have many healthy bodies right now so I can see why Amir is playing through it. He is still playing fairly decent so I am fine with it. If it becomes something serious, then by all means, sit him down.

I saw that too lol, but I'm assuming they care about him. Plus that scenario doesn't happen all the time for him.

I'm sure they care about him, but it should never happen that way. None of them should be made to look like they are fighting it out alone out there.
