Amir Johnson: Colangelo 100% wants to re-sign me

Quote:
If thereís one thing we learned last season, itís that Amir Johnson in a man of few words.
But in a brief interlude with a gathering of reporters waiting at the Air Canada Centre this morning for the breathless prose of NBA draft prospects, Johnson made it clear Ė succinctly Ė that he could very well be a Raptor again once he becomes a free agent in July.

ďAbsolutely. I know I talked to Bryan Colangelo and he said he wanted to re-sign me 100 per cent so I guess we have to wait until July and see what happens.Ē

Johnsonís one of a handful of Raptors free agents and Ė behind Chris Bosh, of course Ė the one the team wants to re-sign above all else. He had something of a breakthrough year last season and his nightly effort and energy was in contrast to some of his teammates.

Getting him back has to be a priority. But Johnsonís going to attract some attention from other teams and itís not like heís going to sign back in Toronto the first second he can.

ďIíll probably take my time with it, thereís no rush, Iím just going to keep on working hard."

Everyone knows that the Raptors should be re-signing Amir. The question is: will he wait until the Raptors know what the scoop is with CB4, or will he jump at an opportunity with another team? I don't think he'll have any trouble finding some suitors.

I believe this is an absolute must have signing. If Johnson does not come back next year we are taking a major organizational step backwards. Just the fact he is hugely committed to staying here says alot and the fact he's in Toronto right as we speak meeting up with Demar, Weems and Jack for some informal workouts says a whole lot about the dedication of all four of those players. These are the type of guys you build around and all four will play a major key in our success next year and for years to come as they set the bar for this Raptor team's expectations when it comes to work ethic!

The future is bright with the likes of those four guys.

Yeah, I want Amir to be back. I have a horrible feeling he's going to be overpaid though... Just bring back the hustle and all will be cool

It'll likely take a bit of time. He's not exactly one of the bigger fish out there.

He's just looking to get the most money he can obviously.. July 1st is when the heat cranks up and he'll see what he's worth and sign with Toronto. I believe Johnson is one of those loyal cats, from the streets, looking to get paid while doing what he loves.. Plus I heard he likes all the Asian girls we have running around here in T.Dot..

If we keep Bosh and Amir we are automatically in lux tax territory I believe.
Does it mean we shoot for the moon again?

Bunch of expirings, moving Hedo, signing #13 and MLE. Given green light by MLSE BC could pull off something insane.
He mentioned scenarios for 3 mil and 5 mil above lux tax. What was the largest scenario?

If Bosh signs Max deal and Amir signs for 4.5Mil, we'd be at around 65-66Mil next season, not quite Luxury tax but only 3-4Mil under.

But that's including Hedo, Calderon + our expirings (10Mil) all of which might be on the move.

Amir was one of the few players to earn his pay check.
He is get between 4 and 6 and be the starting PF.

Amir had a decent season with the Raps but to compare him to Lamar Odom and the like is kind of silly at this point. He was a pleasant suprise to say the least but 6 mill a year is pretty pricey for a guy who is another potential guy. He played well in a reduced role but how productive is he going to be getting starter minutes and not really having much of an offensive game other than hustle points and around the basket stuff. He isn't the best passer or ball handler so he may be foul and turnover prone with more minutes. If he is reasonably priced then he would be worth it.

Amir played well Last season, and Deserves to come back, I would re-sign him for about $6 mill per year over 3 years maybe, but I agree with everyone else Amir was a bright spark for us last season no doubt, Kid can only get better

If Jack is making too much at 5M, Amir shouldn't get 6... I think that's a little high.
