Amir

like many of you, i tought Amir derserve the starting job because he is a blue collar PF whom can pretty well defend and be an anchor on defense.

i know he is injure lately, but i really think they should start PP until end of the season - except if they trade for a better PF.

I really think he is our pefect backup PF/C. first big man of the bench. je could bring some enery alongside with Psycho-T.
i really think he will play the same amount of minutes, and Vasquez can pass/lob to him all the day.

I don't want to trade him, he is one of the core soul of our team.

would you make him the 3rd big man ?
Trade him ? or continue to start him when he come back from his injury?

Amir is better suited to the starting 5, cleaning up DD/Lowry/Ross misses, and generally just setting the tone for the starting lineup who has shown a tendency to become lackadaisical without Amir firing at a full clip. This has been especially evident recently.

PP is the better offensive player. If Amir goes to the bench he is immediately given more offensive responsibility which wouldn't facilitate his success. The guy lives off of putbacks and he's a great finisher around the rim so it just makes sense for him to be in the starting lineup, and having PP get hot off the bench.

Just wondering why we can't make him a second string man? Putting him to 3rd string is going to diminish his trade value, so it's a lose lose overall.

When healthy, continue to start him and then MU has to decide what he wants to do with that position this summer. Patterson plays well with the second unit, so for now keep him there imo. I think long term Amir is better suited as the first big off the bench at 25mpg.

Glad you corrected that typo.

For this team right now, Amir is the best fit for the starting lineup. 95% of the time though, teams with a legit shot to win the championship have a post guy that can draw double teams. We don't have that right now, which is why I don't believe Amir is a long-term option at PF.

We forget? Really?

LET'S GO RAPTORS!!!!! 02-11-2014 05:07 PM

If JV can develop into an option on offense in the long run then someone like Amir can play PF next to him. Granted that's an if.

SOS 02-11-2014 06:51 PM

in order for jv to develop into smthg, you need to have a) staff to coach him (Jamaal Magloire? c'mon...) b) plays for him. If DD, Lowry and Ross (backcourt) is the teams future, JV will hardly ever get above 10 FGA per game average and for sure never with DC.

3rd big = 1st backup behind the two starting bigs

^^^That's from the poll

3rd big off the bench = 3rd big behind starting two bigs.

bjjs 02-11-2014 10:16 PM

I thought the team played it's best basketball running with the three-big rotation of JV/Amir/Patterson, and in that situation, I think most definitely that Amir should be starting.

Playing 4 bigs...in addition to being hurt, Amir just seems to struggle more getting in the flow. Also, Patterson and Hayes/Hansbrough really lack length and struggle defensively when on the court together. If Casey plans on going with 4 bigs in the playoffs, I would understand bringing Amir off the bench.

But I think Amir needs to be a big factor if this team is going to have playoff success, so I hope Casey keeps Amir in the starting lineup, and I hope he picks another stretch or two of games where he runs with a shortened bench and a 3 big rotation up front and runs with that in the playoffs.

It's a matter of interpretation. You could be ridiculous, and assume that the "3rd" references only the bigs off the bench, in which case you make the assumption you did.

Or you could apply reason, give people the benefit of what little actual doubt there should have been, and understand that he clearly meant 3rd big man in the rotation, and as such, coming off the bench.

It's not a matter of interpretation, This is not a philosophical debate.

The guy who made the thread clearly said have him come off as the third man off the bench. That is why I asked why not gave him come off the bench as first or second big.

You actually thought he meant Amir is our 5th best big?

It seemed obvious to me that he meant first big off the bench which places him 3rd on the big's depth chart

This is my point. Applying any thinking skills at all would make it obvious what he meant.

I am not sure why you guys are trying to make this a bigger deal then it is. He clearly said :"Make him the 3rd big men off the bench."

It's not like I attacked him or anything, I just asked why he couldn't be the main big guy off the bench, because you never know with some fans. Clearly you guys would rather debate nonsense then the actual topic ( a common theme with some posters).

Well, everyone else was debating the actual topic at hand until you brought up this nonsense (note how you are the only one who was confused, suggesting that the poll isn't the issue here). Common theme indeed.
