you're the guy that loves to troll my posts... what is your problem dude? Rhetorical. It's cute that you love me so much.

I actually defended Demar and you still can't swallow it....

If there IS a gap between DD and Gay it's shrinking rapidly (IMO).

I'm hoping the two make each other better. But then I also hope Rudy takes something closer to Demar money. Really though, I'm just going to look at one game at a time and try to fully enjoy each one as long as there appears to be a glimpse of something to look forward to for the next game.

As a great man once said - "have you had your plus sign today?"

Mavis bought in -

that would be the kind of miracle moves that MU needs to pull in order to turn this core into something on the next level. The problem is, next summer it appears the FA crop will be poor and a lot of teams will have cash and no players to target. If Gay opts out, I would be really surprised if we can retain him under 14/yr. Hopefully, we'll be a surprise team this season and that may sell gay on staying here for a bit less than he could otherwise command.

of course, there's also the alternative where gay has a poor season and his value drops, but that's not really helping us

His shot selection is what concerns me the most TBH.

If he's still taking 5+ 3s/gm I will NOT be happy camper.

funny enough, that's my biggest concern (on offense) with demar as well, at least with demar of last season's. However, after we got gay, demar's shot selection improved visibly (at least subjectively) and that should continue going forward. only two more days and we'll find out ...

and wth gay, I don't think the 5+ 3s are the problem, even at 33%, that's way better than those long 2s with a hand in the face that he likes to shoot and he probably gets 25% on those, and I'm thinking he also shoots more than 5 a game ... He needs to get to the rim, but at the 3, and in the shape he's shown in the preseason, not much chance of that happening.

This is one of the main reasons that I have so little respect for his game. That and the fact that he seems like a selfish player who rarely looks to pass. I liked the strides that DD made in that area too last season. He was very good at creating for others.

There seems to be a lot of criticisms of Rudy on here, but what his size, length and athleticism bring on the defensive end, even if lazy, needs to be taken into consideration. He's one of the few guys we have that can guard somebody like Lebron, Melo, Durant... and I feel like he has the ability to elevate his game at times despite being lazy at times. Conversely, DD doesn't seem to have that extra level.... so the gap may be narrowing, but I feel like Rudy could bring it to another level simply given his more elite physical tools. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe the 19M takes away from that too much as well.

DD won't come close to Rudy's best season. He plays a pretty well rounded game with the only serious flaw being his shooting last year and the one prior, and he had bad eyes. There's a reason why Gay got a 19 million dollar deal guys.

Gay's best season = 20/6/2 + 1.4 stls

DD's season last year = 18/4/2 + 0.9 stls

If DD continues to trend upwards he could match Gay as early as this season.

with a block a game, and a significant jump in 3%..... it's not a small jump... but doable.

My question is, does having a guy capable of guarding any SF make a difference in value or am I overvaluing that aspect?

yeah, but gay shot much better that season, from the field and from the 3. And was (and still is) a better defender.
