assuming he can keep it up I would say it's:

1. Harden
2. Wade
3. Kobe
4. Iggy
5. Ellis
6. Thompson
7. Derozan
8. Gordon
9. Martin
10. Evans

Just for the record I see Paul George as a SF.
DeRozan isn't top 10 anything

There was a mistake in my post i missed ''not''. ''he is not top 5 SG! Top 10 maybe.'' My bad.

Wade, Kobe, Harden, George then DD? He's not even top 5 offensively until he can shoot 3s, be a defensive star or be insanely efficient on top of what he already is. Arguably you could add 5 more but I see no point in doing that here and creating an endless argument.

Nothing saying he can't be top 5 one day if he plays defense at all, but the band wagon is a little top heavy at the moment. DD played like an average shooting guard on an average team with an slightly above average contract. Anything else is a bit over the top.

And I wouldn't be against trading him as long as it was for his production with some small compensation for his potential, the problem is nobody desperately needs him enough right now to overpay since BC does not have a GM job and we already fleeced NY.
Well said dude.

I'm good.

I think there are some good points brought up on both sides.

Saying he's been playing CLOSE to a top 5 guard at the moment does not infer, in my mind, that he is top 5, or that he is an all star.

Looking at Joey's post again though, it's not as unbalanced as i first thought. There's just nothing much to rant about, nor so much of a bandwagon to worry about. I recall a lot of people stating that jose and andrea were All-Stars that somehow never got picked. This is much different. Eyes are being opened is all, and his contract is no longer an issue. It could work out pretty good for us as fans, and i'll be the first to object if the team sucks but there is somehow excitement over some possibility of Demar gaining in some ranks as an individual.

Fair point. I think Joey was right a lot more than wrong. Some here have already anointed DD as a top five in their minds, but the idea of trading him shouldn't necessarily evoke rage if value is still afforded to his potential in such a trade. I still don't see him making a leap that sets him apart from guys like Turner, Thompson, Beal, Leonard... but then again, maybe he doesn't have to. Maybe he can just be one of those good young players that a slight overpay doesn't cost you as long as he continues to slowly improve year in and year out. I realize you need to pay somebody, but paying them before they've earned it while also being a nearly capped out team is just not as appetizing for me as it is for others.

Will he be top five? Who cares. I doubt it but it means nothing to list guys. I really don't see him doing enough of other things to help this team be great.... but I can be won over if he can make some major leaps. As for trading him, I still think trading him now gives a real opportunity to capitalize on perceived potential.

in some ways, close to a top 5 is worse than top 5 (depending on how you understand the term). Compared to most players in the top 5, demar has never been remotely close at any given time. As it turns out, beyond the top 4, there is a huge gap to #5 and frankly, all the way to maybe top 15-20 there's no clear separation.

as far as the comparison with jose/andrea, I would argue that demar's best is still less than jose's and andrea's. He was more consistent, in that the last 2-3 seasons he's been pretty even with a slight uptick. But Andrea's best season ('09 - '10) and jose's best seasons (never had a clear one, more of a stretch of 2-3 seasons after TJ got hurt) were better than demar's 17/5.

The reason I'm really excited about him is that I really hope the pre-season wasn't just a matter of weak competition, but a sign of things to come. However, saying he is (or is playing like) a top 5 guard based on that is not far removed from saying JV is playing like a MVP candidate based on his summer league performance ...

and I've changed my mind about extending unproven talents before hitting RFA - like we did with andrea and jose. THe reality is that it's FAR safer not to, because the worst case scenario when not extending (the guy plays much better than expected and you have to pay more to retain him) is so much more palatable than the worse scenario in the other case (the guys flops and you end up with a long term contract). Given how teams are reluctant to bid on RFAs these days, and looking at the deals pekovic, jennings, teague got, it's a no-brainer imo.

lol.. so true
but at the same time remember how Bargs looked during last years pre-season.. I thought this dude was just chilling during exhibition.. but his play carried over into the regular season.. so we'll see how DD holds up

I don't understand the dd hatred, sure he's no harden or kobe, but he's really good, I'd say he's barely behind gay for being our best player.

Omg guys DeRozan is a good scorer who might improve only in scoring and range in the future. He ain't anything else and you're not winning shit with a Corey Maggette clone in your starting line up.

A tad harsh.... but he is a limited contributor. If he can increase his rebounds and steals, we'd have something decent.

If DeMar can become a Maggette clone, that's more than fine with me and more than I expect.

I don't think you can say "we" Carp since you clearly are not a Raptors fan.
