Perhaps if at least some details of these rumoured "deals" were presented, this discussion would have some substance...

i'm going to go out on a limb and say that the rumours will start getting more detailed in the next couple weeks. Especially after the all-star break.

NBA trade deadline is March 15th, about 3 weeks from now. I am going out on a limb and suggesting that both Bargs and Jose are still Raptors on March 16th.

Probably. Although i don't think BC sees JC as a long term solution here so him being dealt wouldn't shock me. Especially now that his stock is as high as it'll ever be.

Wow. That's bold. As much as I like Jose, I have to think that he's moved before the deadline.

Bargs is certainly likely to stay - he is by no means unavailable, but I doubt BC sees a deal worth making. Mind you, with the recent play by the team, maybe we have a little more talent sans-Bargnani than we thought - so that might grease the trade wheels. Still, I don't know that I'd have the confidence to bet against what you said - they both may well still be here.

Calderon is most certainly not a long-term solution as a starter, not with his age and suspect durability when playing starter's minutes in the NBA. However, that doesn't mean he is going to be dealt for a late first-rounder and a salary dump, because this might not serve the short- and long-term best interests of this team.

IMHO, such interests would be best served by playing him as a starter for the rest of his contract while looking for a younger replacement. If getting such replacement requires dealing Jose - fine, do it. Otherwise, he is going to be great as a mentor coming off the bench at a reasonable discount.

It's not a bet, more of a hunch. I just don't think BC is going to get an offer enticing enough to move Jose. That goes about twice for Bargnani.

I was suprised to hear him do it, but I have heard BC talk openly about two things"

-"Who is going to be the point guard of the future" -so he is openly discounting Jose

-"The uncertainty at the SF position" So he is not looking at the guys he has as the solution yet.

We don't have SF on this team that should be starting when we start being a playoff team imo. JJ and kleiza are good bench players. And i agree, BC doesn't see Jose as the future of this team at the PG position.

Really depends what we have at the other positions when the time comes. Marion has been a starting SF for many, many years now and his skillset is actually pretty close to JJ's. Strong, versatile defender who can handle the ball and score when given the opportunity. We'll need at least a couple of strong defenders in the starting lineup who don't care about getting plays run for them. JJ fits that bill IMO.

Steve Nash's younger brother. Apparantly he's not very good but he's cheap.

Yep. He is still improving, and by the end of this season could already be good enough for a solid starter.

I think JJ is awful on offense. He's been better of late mind you, but he shouldn't be a starter imo. His energy off the bench for 20-25min would be awsome and if he can over take whoever comes in next season then we deal from a position of strength. IMO we have one true starter on this team and that's Bargnani, Jose is a starter on a bad team, borderline on a good-very good team. But the rest of this roster is nothing more then depth players, some better then others.

He's bigger and tougher than our current back court!

Googled him - a hockey player? Sorry, I know it's very un-Canadian of me, as well as un-Russian, but I don't care about hockey. Never have had.

You can't have it both ways - either you hope to trade Jose to a playoffs-bound team (obviously as a starter, would be a bit pricey for a backup, eh?) or you hold the opinion that he is "a starter on a bad team, borderline on a good-very good team". You simply can't have it both ways.
