NBA looked bad tonight. Gotta think something like that through, not put it together like rules made up on a playground. The best dunkers had to have dunks left in the tank unused too. Even the judge who had no conscience, Magic Johnson couldn't fix that.

And say what you want about dunk competitions but there is plenty of interest. That felt like half a contest.

The format was good, but they should have added a final round, where the best 2/3 dunkers from the conference that won advances to the final round.

I cant complain though. I won some nice money on Belinelli and Wall winning tonight.

I think they should move the All-Star weekend to the end of the season like the pro bowl

It is just over all weak now...

I agree that another round should have been added. But, Lillard had the third best dunk of the night and he shouldnt be ousted because Barnes and to a lesser extent Macklemore were terrible. My main problem with the format is that it doesn't allow any of the players to truly showcase their talent, because the team format seemed more like a warm up. Even if every dunk contest isn't a VC esq event, i'd rather see the old format where they're clearly competing against each other. Instead, we got some team competition, where you could just tell by the look on their faces that most of the players were more comfortable with the solo aspect of the event. Oh well, there were some nice dunks, it's not what I was expecting.

Rising stars shootout: B (Bosh 2 three's)

Skills: B+ (.1)

3PT competition: A (needing an extra round)

Dunk: C- (missing a final round)

Overall talent on Saturday night was the best it's been in ages but the format on the dunk contest leaves a sour taste in my mouth, which is unfortunate because the rest of the night was actually quite good imo

the plan was for this to probably last at least another one or two rounds, the idea was that after losing a battle, the best dunkers moves on.

So if ross lost for example, it would have been PG + JW against DL, with their pick of who goes first. If DL wins again, the score is tied at 2-2 and he would go in the final round against whoever is left in the east. That would have been more interesting.

the east going 3-0 kind of blew all that ...

It always is though.....Thats why you gotta do like me. PVR the event, then watch 3 hours of live coverage in 1 hour (for me I just watched Demar lose the first round, then fast forward straight to the Dunk Contest)

then whoever plans this out should have some knowledge of what these guys are capable of. it wasn't set up to give the west much of a chance, imo.

thats the only way to do it, IMO.
i just PVR'd the event, and watched it in about an hour. seriously, i dont think ive ever seen so many commercials before.. its like every 10 minutes theres a commercial. also, they throw in so much junk during the evening that is so pointless... nick canon, etc. its a bit too much.

Starting at almost 9PM also didn't help. I enjoyed everything other then Nick Cannon, and the dunk contest (too short). Everything else was pretty good. I never care much about how many commercials there are.

man i thought the freestyle round was forced, awkward and uncomfortable. the whole dunk contest format was stupid and anti-climactic. it felt so incomplete and rushed.

NBA All-Star Game 2014: Skills Challenge grades - ESPN

Quote:
B Team DeRozan/AntetokounmpoToronto Raptors/Milwaukee Bucks
First round: 45.0 seconds

ANALYSIS
As it turns out, the time that wasn't good enough for DeMar DeRozan and Giannis Antetokounmpo to advance would have won them the final. The team without a point guard may have been at a disadvantage in the passing competition.
Quote:
B+Terrence RossToronto RaptorsSF
Freestyle Round: East wins 3-0Battle Round: Defeated Damian Lillard 2-1

ANALYSIS
As the defending champ, Ross hardly started from the bottom, and the assistance of Drake couldn't help him stay on top. Ross needed three tries to make his between-the-legs finish after grabbing the ball out of Drizzy's hands, and while that was good enough to beat Damian Lillard in the battle format, it left Ross third on his own East team.

Get rid of the conference vs conference bullshit. Save it for Sunday. If you're so concerned about charity just make the players play for a charity of their choosing individually, which also allows players to choose issues that they are close to (i.e. if a player has a parent with cancer they pick cancer research). The team aspect ruined the dunk contest, and it could have fucked up the 3pt shootout if Beal didn't go off. Keep the pairs in the skill challenge though, just don't limit the guys to pair up in their own conference.

When the shooting stars competition is the second most exciting part of AS saturday night, you know you fucked up.
