Thumbs down All Star Game is All BS, Proof why deserving players never make starting line up!

i know this article is about Tracy Mcgrady but i wanted to post it in the Toronto Raptors section cause it talks about how KG is getting more votes then bosh, even though CB is playing more dominantly right now. Also How the hell is T-Mac getting so many all star votes!!!!! lol, damn Yao Ming!

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP)—Kobe Bryant(notes) is the leading vote-getter for the NBA All-Star game and Tracy McGrady(notes) is on track to start beside him in the Western Conference backcourt despite not playing yet this season.

Bryant had more than 692,000 votes in the first set of returns announced Thursday, about 20,000 more than East leader Dwyane Wade(notes). Also on track to start for the West are NBA leading scorer Carmelo Anthony(notes) and Dirk Nowitzki(notes) at forwards, and Amare Stoudemire at center.

McGrady is nearing a return from microfracture knee surgery, but leads Steve Nash(notes) by more than 9,000 votes for the West’s second guard spot. McGrady likely is benefiting from his popularity in China as Yao Ming’s(notes) longtime teammate in Houston.

LeBron James(notes) and Kevin Garnett(notes) lead at the East forward position, Dwight Howard(notes) has a huge advantage over Shaquille O’Neal(notes), and his Orlando teammate Vince Carter(notes) is second among guards.

The All-Star game is Feb. 14 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Starters will be announced Jan. 21 and reserves will be chosen a week later.

I've said it before and say it again. This is why you should focus on ALL NBA rather than all stars

I totally agree DVS, but all star game should mean something, i think the whole idea is tainted,

i think they should change the system for the starters, 33% fan vote, 33% Players Vote, and 33% Coaches

it would at least make it more consistent and much less of a popularity contest

t-mac has not played at an all-star level for a long time, this has to be the biggest joke the nba perpetuates year after year after year! i can't believe shaq is even in the running for the C spot as he sucks!

we now continue with regularly scheduled programming

Your right however the NBA don't care about whats right. The NBA all star game to them is to capture the eye of the fringe fan.

All-star game is all about popularity, flashiness and fun game.

The players who "deserve" should end up in all-nba teams

50% coaches, 25% fans 25% players.

Thats a good way to decide.

Fans and players are ridiculous.

Coaches just respect good ball players

I agree with SJ's and JayJayW's suggestions. I'm not that particular about the % breakdowns, but the fan voting system needs to be re-tooled. It's been ridiculous for years now.

Well, it's simple really. I think McGrady was awesome, I didn't expect him to get so many votes he'd be a starter. But I hope he realizes that he has a lot of fans behind him, so he'll be motivated to start scoring in bunches again. He was at one time, my fav player behind Carter.

Sue me for voting for him.

Hey, you're free to vote for whoever you want, but you were calling it a disgrace that Bosh was third in voting when he clearly is playing better than those above him... yet you yourself voted for a guy who hasn't even played.

That's being slightly hypocritical is it not?

No, not at all. I just think that people NOT voting for Bosh is crazy. If they don't, well what can we do? If more people want to see Garnett than Bosh as an all-star starter, we can't do anything.

As for McGrady, I said he was awesome because he's not currently active. I'd take him back on the raps in a heartbeat. People said Carter is too old at 33, Turk is better (Jeffb, you were one) and last night Carter drop 34 and 6. I don't even think Turk will ever reach 30 points in the next 5 years as a Raptor.

McGrady back to Toronto !!.

We know he's not going to play in the all-star game fancy. It's strictly for support. His fans want to see him score 40 points again without breaking a sweat. Hopefully this will motivate him to try his best to come back at 100% again.

I feel like your living in the past man... I really don't understand how 2 of your favourite players can be players that admitted they didn't try at points for their old teams, but that's up to you.

As for voting for players that are injured, I think the same thing happened when VC made it to the all-star game when he barely played and then reluctantly gave his spot away to MJ. I think it's been a problem in my eyes since then.

Vince Carter dropped 34 points last night and is going to be on the all-star team. Look at the Nets without him. I'm pretty sure he's still awesome and that I'm living in the present.
