Default All in one: Turkoglu in, Marion out - So what are the next steps for Toronto?

Well, as you all may know, the Marion deal is all but league approved. But from here on out, what should BC do? It's clear that the Raptors need a bit more depth and with Toronto still holding their mid-level and lower level exceptions, they can look at a few more free agents.

Anthony Parker has been talked about signing with the Cavaliers so it looks almost bleak at this point to re-sign him. Delfino is a possibility, I've heard Rasho's name come up a few times for that LLE, Kleiza is also a possibility, as well as Matt Barnes and Von Wafer.

It should be interesting to see what goes on within the next couple of weeks. Getting Rasho at the LLE and Kleiza or Wafer with the MLE would be beyond amazing but easier said then done. What does BC have in store for us?

Background:
Through a large multi-team S&T the Toronto Raptors sent Shawn Marion to Dallas and received Hedo Turkoglu. The net result was a capped Raptors team with right to use the Mid Level Exception and the Bi-Annual Level Exception, all totally around $7-$8M; both exceptions cannot be combined. They can also re-sign their own free agents who are restricted or to who they own Bird rights to, without affecting these exceptions.

Restricted Free Agents:
- Joey Graham
- Carlos Delfino

Bird Rights:
- Anthony Parker

Potential Impact Free Agents:
Josh Childress(R)
Glen Davis(R)
Brandon Bass
Marquis Daniels
Ramon Sessions(R)
Rashad McCants
Brevin Knight
Rasho Nesterovic
Pops Mensah-Bonsu

Right now they have 11 men on the roster, so potentially they could bring back Joey, Delfino and Parker and still have room for one guy with the MLE. That's probably not realistic because they would again have a log jam at the 2 and 3. The most like scenario would probably see on of Delfino or Parker coming back. Then the MLE is used on one or two impact players and the Bi-Annual Exceprion being used on someone to stick on the end of the bench.

Not Von Wafer please. I think he's really obnoxious.

I think Kleiza should be on BC's radar as the next step, then back-up center Rasho

Resign Delfino and Pops

Andre Miller for MLE, veteran PG backup. All other positions are ok I think

Kleiza is not a good player or a good fit here. No dribble, no IQ, likes too shoot too much. Big body, but could finish at the rim only when defense was occupied with other Nuggets

The MLE should be used on a two or a three, the situation at the wing is much more dire than the point guard spot. Wouldn't mind seeing a backup point guard picked up with the LLE though.

Do you think Hedo, Delfino, Wright, Derozan and maybe George will not cover the wing? Ukic can do some SG so I hear.

Anyway, I believe Andre will improve the team a lot. Having two solid PGs worked well for us.

There are FA and RFA options for the wing, but think about giving DD minutes and giving our stars their shots. Not many players can produce without shots and minutes.

We can get a better two guard for the MLE than we would if we just signed Delfino, not to mention he hasn't even been signed yet. There will be more minute-sharing at the wings than at the point; I don't know if I'd want to use my MLE to backup a spot where the minutes will, for the most part, be dominated by one guy.

Andre Miller turned down a one year MLE with Philly. He's apparently asking for 10 million. Even if we could get him for say three years at the full MLE I think we can do better.

I'd love to see Kleiza and Barnes....That said Delfino would be good to have back and Rasho as a back-up centre can certainly give us a dozen or so solid minutes and 6 hard fouls.

My understanding is that we own Delfino's rights and can sign him without using the MLE. So if we can add Delfino for a reasonable amount we've still got the full MLE...not to mention our Bi-annual exemption. Any chance Rasho signs for the Vet minimum?

BC should split up the MLE on 2 players as none of them really deserve the full MLE...
My picks to fill out the bench:

Lindsay Hunter for back up PG just as insurance if roko doesn't improve, Hunter can give about 10 mins off the bench every game...

Matt Barnes - so very underrated in my opinion, can knock down the open jumper and has had playoff experience, can give good minutes off the bench

Pops/Rasho/Petro - just a back up big to eat up some minutes, I'd be in favour of Pops or Petro as they are still young and are a bit more mobile

Back up plans on the wings:
Carlos Delfino
Marquis Daniels
Rodney Carney
Ime Udoka

I didn't know Marquis Daniels was a FA. I really liked him in his Dallas days.
He's had his share of injuries though.

The deal, according to sources, calls for the Mavericks to acquire Marion and Kris Humphries from Toronto and Greg Buckner from Memphis, with Marion to receive a five-year contract worth an estimated $39 million. Buckner has had two previous stints with the Mavericks but is likely to be released, sources said.

The Grizzlies will land Jerry Stackhouse from Dallas, Quincy Douby from Toronto and a substantial cash payment to buy out Stackhouse's contract. Only $2 million of Stackhouse's $7.25 million salary next season is guaranteed, as long as he is waived by Aug. 10.

The Raptors will receive Devean George and Antoine Wright from the Mavericks, while also preserving their $5.9 million mid-level exception for the coming season by turning their acquisition of Turkoglu -- who is getting a five-year deal worth an estimated $53 million -- into a sign-and-trade as opposed to an outright signing. Assembling the trade this way could also enable Toronto to re-sign Carlos Delfino, after it appeared that the Raptors would have to renounce Delfino to help make room for the Turkoglu signing.

The Magic, meanwhile, were motivated to join in the trade because their participation, as opposed to merely letting Turkoglu walk, will create a valuable trade exception they can use in future deals worth around $7 million.

The inclusion of Humphries, Wright and George gave the Raptors more financial incentive to help Marion find a new home via sign-and-trade, as both George and Wright are heading into the final year of their contracts, while Humphries has two years left on his deal. Toronto, furthermore, is in need of a shooting guard after Anthony Parker signed Wednesday with the Cleveland Cavaliers, so adding Wright gives them a credible starter until newly drafted DeMar DeRozan is ready to contribute.
Sources: Shawn Marion headed to Dallas Mavericks in four-team deal with Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies - ESPN

Default I hope CB4 is right about this...

from hoopshype.com-

Chris Bosh: Welcoming my new Raptor Team mates Devean George and Antoine Wright! Twitter.com

Chris Bosh: Good luck to Kris Humphries in Dallas, great guy sad to see him go. Twitter.com
assuming this happens; here is our crappy solution to our depth problem. devean george is the new jason kapono (i mean production wise) and antoine wright is a better version of joey graham (and he's got more potential).

now if only we could resign pops or another 2 guard, i would be content with this roster...

Default Free Agency Revisited

Background:

They can also re-sign their own free agents who are restricted or to who they own Bird rights to, without affecting these exceptions.
Note: The Raptors also received Antoine Wright and Devin George while sending Quincy Douby and Kris Humphries outbound.

Restricted Free Agents:
- Joey Graham
- Carlos Delfino

Bird Rights:
- Anthony Parker

Potential Impact Free Agents:
Josh Childress(R)
Glen Davis(R)
Brandon Bass
Antonio McDyess
Marquis Daniels
Ramon Sessions(R)
Rashad McCants
Brevin Knight
Rasho Nesterovic
Pops Mensah-Bonsu

Then the MLE is used on one or two impact players and the Bi-Annual Exceprion being used on someone to stick on the end of the bench. I could see Rasho Nesterovic coming back here at a small price, taking up only half the MLE and then the rest being used on a wild card. Regardless, this team looks to be possibly stronger than Colangelo's first Raptors built team of three seasons ago.
