but with such an offensive offensive repertoire, defensibly average defensive game, leaves his defender to be the help/double in all offense sets the Raptors run when he is on the court ... thus, he is a liability on the forward end of the court. On the back end, he hasn't tripped up any of his team mates ... yet

But the good thing is, we have one less pylon on the front end ... BARNEY IS GONE!

I really like his commercials. Although, they aren't quite the same caliber as those Primo Pasta commercials. They are still entertaining.

Any way you slice it, he IS a liability because he's playing a perimeter position and he's unable to properly space the floor, which makes him a liability in todays drive and kick, pick and roll dominant game. The non ball handling G/Fs need to be behind the 3 point line, and be able to knock down shots if their man helps on the penetrating player. Whoever is guarding him can essentially take 2 steps over into the middle before the ball handler even has a chance of getting there and not have to worry about him from 3 point land, let alone midrange.

Your statement also proves that the eye test is still, and will always be, the best indicator of a players value.
I am, the stats that DanH had shows he's not a liability on the floor - you actually thought I would just bring out the 'eye test' or just 'stats'? Get real man, you need a mix of eye balling and solid stats - not one over the other. He may not be producing like he can and should but everything else he's doing is better than most on the team.

Your assessment doesn't make sense to me on the defensive or offensive side. You make it sound like he's a bumbling idiot that can barely do anything and that's just out right wrong.

Check the DanH thread 'With or Without you - how does this core fit together'

Because of 17 years of mostly shit, I would think. That's why I'm not at all ready to embrace the tank at this point. It would be nice to see a team with the sum being greater than the whole of the parts, and just go from there, able to presume that Masai can take care of the deadwood from one year to the next. I'm just tired of all the bush-league crap.

+1

It seems that's what MU is doing and I really hope that's the case.

LOL his stats don't say he's a liability eh. Dude butchers lay ups, no mid-range and an atrocious 3 point shot. All he can do is defend decently (not even elite at the one skill he supposedly has). Sorry that's a scrub to me.

above average defender, decent rebounder and imo can be better than last season offensively. As scrubs go, he isn't one. Solomon, adams, alibi and sooooo many other were scrubs. Fields is an overpayed 9-10th man

Lol I hate the guy, maybe I'm too hard on him but his lack of basketball skills for an NBA player is pathetic.

He had a decent rookie season in NY and post the Melo trade his role has changed a bit. Last year he was injured and was bad, also his playing time was cut to 20 min/ game compare to 30 min he used to log in NY. If we trade DD I won't mind starting him and see if he can produce 10/6/2 with good D like he had in his rookie season.

Well if we do trade DeMar, I'd think that Ross would be starting. Although I did not mind the signing at the time, it looks very ugly in retrospect. It will be hard for him to get meaningful minutes with DeRozan/Gay/Ross at the wing positions.

I'm not that sure about Ross's playing time; he will have to earn it. Basing on what we saw in summer league he's not there yet. I'm not sure he has the mental toughness and the willing to improve to secure a starting position in this league. I hope he'll prove me wrong though.
