Long term?

Meh....1 more year then he's an expiring and could potentially be moved - that's not long term - although sometimes watching him play it certainly feels that way. Besides, his defense is a lot better and he may recover his shot. Personally I feel his injury started last year and he spent then till his surgery compensating for it and developing bad habits with his shot. Hopefully now that it's fixed he can un-learn the shooting mess he's in now.

I'm definitely no fan of Landry, but that's not fair.

Minutes per game:

2011: 31.0
2012: 28.7
2013: 20.9

His 3 point percentage though omg

I don't think he'll ever recover his shot. It looks worse then it did before the injury - so mechanical with no fluidity.

The problem is that his problem is beyond mechanics. It's mental. I would be shocked if he ever became a consistent threat from outside the three point line.

2012: +213 PM, +4.78 APM, +1.5 RAPM
2013: -1 PM, ?, ?

No advanced PM stats available for this year yet. But he has a very positive impact. The dependence upon offensive stats here is troubling.

Yeah, it's a real shame we signed him to the shortest legal deal we could sign him to.

Yes, please. But not because Fields is bad, or Ross is bad, but because Afflalo is awesome, and I've wanted him here for years (and he would fit perfectly).

Yup. Very good player. I think if DD stays he would push him to get better and could possibly oust him from the starting lineup. Orlando saves the 7.5 million guaranteed for Affalo in 2015/2016. I think TR could appeal to them given he's 6 years younger than Affalo and Orlando's wouldn't mind the youth and potential. They picked up Tobias Harris which was nice. They have a lot of young guys in Harris, Harkless, NV, Nicholson, Lamb and I'm sure they wouldn't mind adding TR to that young group of players. LF could be a "young vet" for them.

it's the contract, TO. it's like how everyone loved JYD until he signed that horrible contract. that's when people started talking about how horrible he was offensively, and how consistently he made poor defensive decisions. the only difference was that landry didn't have a loyal fanbase coming here like JYD did.

+1

Everyone always forgets that he's been in the league 1 year less than Derozan. He doesn't hang his head, put's in the effort, has great basketball IQ. Stop focusing on his shot. He contributes way more of the stuff we need.

Absolutely. I could understand some guys not being his biggest fans but I don't understand the hate at all. It's not his fault he was offered the conctract - he'd have been a fool if he didn't sign it.

The guy plays hard. Knows his role. Has some personality and a really hot fiancee.

I like him.

People shouldn't hate LF, they should hate BC cause the only reason LF is here is because BC idiotically went after Nash.

Even that has been overblown IMO. $6M/yr for 3 years.... so what? Not great, but far from horrid. Christ, some compare it to Hedo and Kapono's hideous deals and that's not fair at all.

He's not here to shoot the ball. He's here to do everything else. And he does.

I'm happy to see that there are guys here DO appreciate what he brings to the floor though. At least I know I'm not crazy.

I haven't seen anything about Landry Fields and his off-season activities. In my view, Landry is a key rotational piece if the team is going to step up however he has to be able to drop shots to be effective. Have you heard anything specific about whether Landry is just chilling or doing any targeted development?

Ray, Huntsville

A: Yeah, have heard lots. He’s rehabbing his arm/elbow regenerates itself slowly, he’s working on restructuring his shot with members of the team’s coaching and training staff.

Watching him afraid to make a shot last year was brutal. I hope it's fixed this year. If Fields can get some confidence in his shot I think his "With or Without You" stat will be pretty great.

Well his FT% did get back up there to his rookie season numbers. Maybe the reunion with Novak will boost that faint memory of shooting a 3

How is it far from horrid, given his minimal production? Especially with the way the new salary cap is structured, giving role players/bench players 5+ million per season is a true cap killing, and team building killing contract. Your statement is completely wrong on so many levels. Yes, he provides energy and some defence, but he's a complete negative on the offensive end as we're playing 4 on 5 with him on the floor against any decent defensive team, and as an individual defender, he's ok in certain matchups, but he's not the versatile defender you'd expect given his reputation, as he isn't capable of guarding quicker guards, only bigger forwards effectively for long stretches.

Anyone who calls Fields a good player at this point is out of their damn mind. He cant be effective over a long stretch of minutes on a consistent game to game basis at the SG or SF position because his offence is putrid, and in todays NBA where you need your SG/SF position to space the floor, he kills the offence because whoever is guarding him can play center field. Plus again, his defence is massively overrated by anyone who says it's more than average, and that's only against bigger SG/SFs like Johnson and Melo, who he's only had mild success against. And he's not a great help defender who is able to cover for his teammates like a Battier, so essentially what is he GOOD at? Rebounding. Woop dee dee.
