the more i think about it the more i realize that fields' main criticism is that he doesn't put up stats and he can't seem to hit an open shot
so basically this guy just has to get in the gym and put up some more shots can fix his shooting
but also, the reason why a lot if not most of the people here are hating on fields is also because of the fact that demar starting at SG is basically giving the team just as much inconsistency every game, this only magnifies the fact that the wing positions are not providing enough, if demar provided that consistent production as a guy which is 1 of the focal points of the team then fields' non-stat contributions would be fine, its like when we had VC, did we really care about the production of mopete as long as he played D and hit the open 3s

when will he start hitting shots, esp open ones? a lot harder to predict but he has shown he can do it consistently in the past, so i'm still expecting it to come at some point this season.
attacking the rim?

He needs to hit the weightroom... in a big way. Get him in there with SJ and see how that abrasive charm rubs off.

yeah, he's a pretty good slasher and finisher? that's what i remember in his 1st season and in his "non-melo" period last season.

Doesn't help that he's playing out of position.

One more reason to be annoyed at that DD contract. Ugh.

His first half of his first season, when Amare was carrying that team.... many guys were balling at the time. I'm not sold he's a slasher.... his handles are slow and loose. He's not a great athlete despite having good height and length. If he hits the weights, I can see him adding a physical element that would somewhat minimize his awkwardness. He does however, have incredible court awareness and the sense of when to cut off the ball... I give him that.

it comes down to this. SO SIMPLE:

think of almost every SF/wing glue guy in recent history. they all had high ball iq, knew where to be and when, played solid defense, but most importantly can HIT TIMELY 3s (usually from the corner)!

- Shane Battier
- Bruce Bowen
- Mike Miller (in his younger days)
- List can go on for days

FIELDS CANNOT SHOOT FOR SH*****T. HE IS THE WORST GLUE GUY EVER!

agreed, but that alley-oop is maybe the beginning of Lowry imposing his will on others and keeping them aggressive. DD should have two or three of those a game.... Landry can't pull that off.

True, this team is going to have to depend on Lowry a lot though

I was wrong about good he is.... he was amazing that first game. I hope he can hold up though, guys that play that style often end up dealing with countless injuries... reminds me of a young G-force. Lowry was all over, dipping and diving, dodging and ducking.... nobody was going to hit him with any wrenches.

"Cutter" is a better description when it comes to Fields than "slasher". Agree there.

Seeing him live was awesome. Yeah, hopefully he doesn't get injured. However, it's nice to see a PG who can take it to the rim, penetrate the d and take some risks.

yeah i'll go along with that.

my original point tho was that he'll get to the rim and finish more in the next few games. I think he'll be scoring 10pts or more fairly soon.

I'd also agree with that.

Fields' game depends a lot on his teammates. He's not going to have any plays run for him for so he has to learn where he can pick his spots.... and the other guys will have to get used to looking for him.

I'd be shocked if he's as bad as he was for NYK last season.

Because he was so bad, it shouldn't be that shocking!

He really struggled in the second half of his first year too. Again, there's room for growth, but it's tempered but some limitations and at this stage I see him as a young player that is likely to struggle with consistency... as most do.
