Hey we have this center, who is really quick, can really shoot the ball and get you 20 pts on a good shooting day, but he doesn't like contact (not a bruiser), doesn't want to rebound and has terrible defensive awareness.

Like the NFL Quarterback who needs throwing accruacy, the center position in the NBA needs to be tough, needs to grab integral rebounds when the game is on the line, needs to be in the right position when his team mate gets beat off the dribble. When this team gets good, can you really leave and trust Bargnani on the floor during crunch time.

People say Bargnani needs a bruising center to protect him and dynamic point guard to run the offense. In football, you can have the best offensive line to protect the quarterback, and great wide receivers to get open, but if you have a quarterback who can't throw accurately, you're team won't get far.

Look at the Celtics & Lakers, there is no defensive liability when they close games:

Gasol-Bynum or Odom-Kobe-Artest-Fischer

Perkins-Garnett-Pierce-Allen-Rondo

hey, he is what he is.
We can cry and facepalm all we want about it, but he's still a pretty good player and usually has a hand in our wins. As i have said before, i don't think he IS a center. He's better as a taller PF.

In the end, i am not opposed to trading him if it makes the team better, but i'm not going to facepalm him he is one of a few problems on the team.

Plays great man defense
Is an awesome help defender
Can shoot the 3
Is a team leader

If we do that we would be amazing.
I've used that player on my nephews video game. his name is "player" and is 100 in every catagory and is 7 foot 7 , 350lbs. maybe should trade Bargs and Jose for him.

It's not that Andrea sucks. He's clearly talented on the offensive end.

He's just not a good fit for our team because he needs to play with either....

a) a dynamic PG who can penetrate the defense at will (i.e. Deron, Nash, CP3)

OR

b) a strong defensive-minded post player (D12, Noah, McGee, maybe Love?) who can cover up his weaknesses on the defensive end.

We have neither.
and we are only 12 games into a season in which the team dynamic is obviously changing. If people were giving Hedo at least 20 games to see if he fit into last years team but are writing off Bargs in a new expanded roll after 3 or 4 games.

First, an insane comparison of sports, and I think you know that,

Also way to prove Bargs is terrible by comparing him to maybe the 2 best teams in the NBA...

Well done.

This thread will unfortunately be resurrected by the haters when Bargnani has ONE bad game. Great one against the Rockets though!

Bargnani is the best Raptor thus far. Don't hate on him before others. He's even getting paid less than Calderon.

softest team in the NBA.. trade andrea and jose calderon.. otherwise toronto will not see playoffs again.

get some American BASKETBALL players.. European basketball style is too soft for NBA..
Oh yeah, in fact Pau Gasol is such a furry, isn't it?
don't u think that is a coaching fault? Look at Beli, with Monty Williams is another guy.

Bargs is well worth his salary. He is still adjusting to his new role.
Having stated this, my only real issue with this guy is he just doesn't bring the intensity all the time. I'm okay with him not being a sound help defender .. we all have weaknesses. It's the lack of intensity that pisses me off. This is tough to change given that 'intensity' (or the perception) is closely related to personality. 'Intensity' can't really be measured objectively and even more difficult to change perception.
In Philly and last night with the Rockets, it seemed like the effort was there. If he can show this 90% + of the time, I frankly don't care how many rebounds or points. He's then becomes a keeper.
Either way, there won't be much trouble trading him.

Barg is a good player. It's not his fault this team is so bad, he forced to be what he is not. He is not a go to guy and he is not a center.

What some of you "Bargs-boosters" are failing to notice is that it's not about the points with Bargs.... it's never BEEN about the points....

He's a gifted scorer. He's actually improved that part of his game this season.... but unless he brings the defense and the intensity EVERY GAME (the way that he did today) he hurts the team... a lot.

What I liked most about Bargs today was that he battled out there... he didn't just wave his arms and move out of the way.... and the way that he got to the line (13 FTAs!) was wonderful to see. Very Bosh-like.

Good for him. As long as he continues to play this way I'll have very little to bitch about.
