You can take that realism elsewhere. It's not welcome in this thread.

In all seriousness, i don't expect us to be winning at a .750 rate... but i'm fairly confident in this team winning more games than they will lose the rest of the way.

There's reason to support this team.

Hard to look good on a shitty team.

I would still take him in place of Wright in a heartbeat.... and I know you would too.

Well if they keep up good play a 5th or 6th place looks to be the wheelhouse. After that bad stretch earlier in the season I thought they would never be able to be capable getting back to that.

So if its a probable ATL or Orlando meeting so be it. A miracle getting to the 2nd (which I thought at the beginning of the season) and you have what u have.

I just wanna see an apology to Triano thread is all. Peopel were way too hard on him earlier I feel **cough** liverpool fans

And that's really the essence of this thread.

We're 18-18 now.

36 games down.... 46 to go.

Would it be an extreme stretch to think that this team could go 27-19 the rest of the way?

Because that would put them at 45-37 at the end of the season.... which ain't half bad given how we started.

Triano doesn't need to be aknowledged by a bunch of nerds on the internet. and anyways, back then the criticism was warranted. The team was playing without identity or purpose. now they are and I totally admit that Triano has been a big part of that turnaround.

Very true.

Triano needed a chance as much as any of the players on the roster. It's not easy bringing together a brand new team with a totally revamped roster.

Takes TIME.

Now we're seeing some results and guys are clearly buying in to what he's saying. And I'm sure that he's learned a thing or two as well about being a head coach in the NBA.

triano was fantastic tonight, at least imho
the game plan was great (let howard score, defend the 3 - having Bargnani play great d on howard was just gravy), he made great adjustments during the game (wright on lewis in the 3rd was genious), he wasn't afraid to ride the hot hand and I could go on.

One interesting thought is the amount of close games we won this year (3 of the past 4). I remember not too long ago when even inbounding the ball was a challenge for this team

The biggest thing for me has been what I've harped on for a while. They didn't force up shots early in the clock to try to take advantage of a transition game that is too easy to take away, like in Boston, which is still on Triano's head. They actually played a very nice halfcourt game that didn't give the Magic break opportunities. So when you don't emphasize stupid shit that ends up killing us all the time, is it really a surprise to see some results?

The whole coaching staff looked really engaged tonight. I'd say the extra practice they've been able to get in, and figuring out the makeup of this team some more, really helps. Still, I don't get how they didn't force Orlando to play any defense in the fourth. They needed to come up with some way to force some fouls. They finally did, with the ball in Hedo's hands, but it was about two or three minutes later than when it should have happened. I'm not saying that I'm unhappy overall, but Triano hardly needs any apologies. He still needs to improve.

I liked Triano today but That last time out was a terrible mistake. We had free FTs already and it was the last one. So if a steal and a three happend we would have been screwed.

True enough LX.... but ORL seemed determined NOT to let Bosh get to the line (or even get the ball).... and Hedo just isn't quick enough to really challenge the Magic wings and suck them into fouls consistently.

We still don't have many guys outside of Bosh who can get to the line when we need them to.... maybe Jack.... that's about it.

He did the same thing in the last game. And then they had to burn another timeout just to get the ball in. Ever since Beli almost threw the ball away late, he's over-reacted.

Hedo can get to the line. He is crafty enough. And Beli and Derozan can get there. On the plus side, he did make sure the ball was taken care of, and the clock used up.

If Jose is going to be on the floor in clutch time, I really want to see him taking those shots that Bargnani and Jack missed so badly on. That would be a nice thing to see. Otherwise it's hard to see the point, other than he's not going to throw the ball away.

Your question asks, would it be an extreme stretch?

I don't think it's an extreme stretch. You can make a good case for why 45 wins is probable.

1 - the Raps have put together back to back wins against quality teams. A good sign.

2 - the Raps are winning the close games and holding on to leads under adverse conditions. Last night it was questionable 4th quarter reffing, in past weeks they've been missing Calderon. They even beat the Bobcats without Calderon AND Turkuglo (technically, since Turk missed the second half). This is a good sign. Lately they haven't been folding when there are excuses that could be made.

3 - the schedule during the second half of the season is more favourable. The Raps have played Orlando 4 times already. Boston on the road twice. They've played their mandatory road games against Denver, Utah, San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix. Many of the tough games they have against western conference opponenets are now taking place at the ACC. The Raps, especially Bargs, play better at home, so they will likely win some of those tougher games. The only really, really tough western road game left is against the Lakers.

4 - the Raps have a bunch of games left against opponents they SHOULD beat. The Raps haven't even played the knicks or the sixers yet, and the Raps still have 3 games against the Nets. They have been winning the games against teams they should beat. That's the reason the Raps are .500 even after they played so many tough road games. If they continue to beat the teams they should beat, 45 wins is very reasonable.

5 - I like what I've seen from the bench lately. I left this point for last because I've found myself saying that before, and then they started playing poorly. It's a weaker point, but it's a good sign that bench players who have struggled in the past manage to dig themselves out of their slump in order to contribute again. I like what I've seen from Belli lately. He was playing like shit for a while and that really concerned me. He's back to contributing again. It's good to know that we have bench players who will suck it up and not wallow in self pitty.

Some great points there AC.... esp. about the sched. You're right.... the Raps SHOULD have an easier time of it over the 2nd half of the season.
