Arrow Aldridge ranks teams based on offseason moves - Raps 24th

Quote:
No. 24 -- TORONTO RAPTORS

2009-10 RECORD: 40-42, second place, Atlantic; did not make playoffs.

ADDED: G Leandro Barbosa (trade with Phoenix); F Ed Davis (first round, 13th pick overall); F Linas Kleiza (four years, $20 million); C Solomon Alabi (Draft day trade with Dallas).

LOST: F Chris Bosh (sign-and-trade deal with Miami); F Hedo Turkoglu (traded to Phoenix); F Antoine Wright (signed with Sacramento).

RETAINED: F Amir Johnson (five years, $34 million).

THE KEY MAN: DeMar DeRozan.
The second-year guard has to develop rapidly with Bosh gone. He had a solid rookie season (65 starts, .498 FG percentage), but the Raptors need to give Andrea Bargnani some help, and they could use another star along the lines of Vince Carter or Tracy McGrady to keep what fan interest the Maple Leafs don't already have.

THE SKINNY: Well, that didn't end great. Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo gambled that he could find a sign-and-trade for Bosh that would bring some players back, but the best he could do is a trade exception that might be able to land someone in the next year. Until then the Raptors don't have much to hang their hats on. Davis has potential, but it will take a couple of years; Barbosa was once one of the league's fastest and fiercest with the ball, but injuries have slowed him down. And, let's just say there aren't many people around the league who think Johnson is worth $6.5 million a season. He, and Toronto, have to prove a lot of people wrong.

Yeah, this is very fair. We lost our best player, and arguably our second-best player, so I don't expect a high ranking. I think BC will make a major shakeup soon, so I do expect us to climb higher on the ranking.

I'd like to agree, but posting much the same thing lead to me being told to go fuck off. So let me try - OMG - Aldridge is a slut that can't see how incredibly athletic this team is. Amir is going to make every one of his 15 minutes worth more than Aldridge could ever fathom!!!!!

That was my reaction as well. #9 for the Knicks? Seriously? Maybe 9th in the Eastern Conference but 9th in the entire NBA is just ludicrious. I'd put them somewhere closer to 12-13th if they have a good year - and worse is possible.

To be fair the Raptors added good rotational NBA talent (Barbosa/Kleiza), a solid PF prospect in Davis, and rid themselves of Hedo's horrendous contract. Aldridge just negated all the positives in his analyses. Also he reduced the Raptors S&T to just an exception-Rap's got back their pick (key considering their likely low lottery finish- and grabbed Miami's first. Fuck horse shit reporting.

I still don't understand why people shit on you for your comments made.

In all honestly I have noticed you have gotten mildly more negative than usual lately, but you have still made reasonable arguments.

And even with that slightly more negative tone lately I still think you are one of our better posters on RF.

Anyway I'm not kissing your ass or anything, I just think we need to balance the hate with a little love.

aw jeez - now I feel like an ass - but thanks.

Being a pessimist is completely new to me. In all honesty it doesn't really suit me. I actually make a pretty good homer. The last few years have made it tough to believe though. But I do still have a part of my heart that almost expects something brilliant to materialize somehow this season. Then I hear BC today, already talking about how losing Bosh's production is going to be difficult, and then out of the other side of his mouth he talks about how it might allow for something better. I just pray to see some sense of direction, win or lose. It looks like it might happen, but I thought that same thing too many times in the past already.

You're absolutely right. I see nothing wrong with LX's posts... or bjjs'.... or Thriller's... and all could be construed as "negative" from time to time. They're realistic though and they all make keen observations that go far beyond what the NBA marketting machine WANTS you to see.

It's interesting though that people seem to be on such a high right now considering the state of the team. Hell, I made one of the most homerific threads in all of last season and got ridiculed for it on a regular basis lol... so yeah... that ship has sailed for me.

Hurray for defeatist attitudes!

Hmmm you're absolutely correct... you got me... In haste I assumed that these were summer power rankings. I guess seeing the Bucks at number 7 should have been a giveaway.

I'm fine with any ranking, as long as we are not pegged to finish 24th and if we finish 19th we're judged a major dissapointment ...
