Raptors Alan Anderson Contract

This guy has been playing hard D and being really efficient. He's more than likely going to be resigned. If you were BC what contract would you give him?

Alan Anderson 9.0 PT .446 of 6.7 FG .800 of 1.8 FT .515 of 3.0 3P 1.9/0.6 RB 1.09 AS 0.18 BL 0.18 ST 1.18 TO 1.91 PF 23.7 MN 11/7 GS

Alan Anderson 11.3 PT .458 of 8.4 FG .714 of 2.0 FT .556 of 3.9 3P 2.0/0.3 RB 1.1 AS 0.3 BL 0.1 ST 1.4 TO 2.4 PF 29.2 MN 7/7 GS (last 7 games)

I'd giving him 4 year 10-12 million with with team options in year 2 and 3 and give him a player option in year 4.

ummm no.

i like the way he plays, but anything over the 1mil/year is overpaying him. He just another scrub playing decent minutes for a shitty team. and we as fans keep overvaluing these guys. no one had herd of this guy until 2 weeks ago.

He fills a need, this team needed a good shooting wing. Wouldn't mind giving him a contract under 3M per year

A 4-year deal? Are you kidding?

Like VanCity said, we overrate these kind of players all the time. They're just not that good. They're playing hard because they want a contract or for other teams to notice them. If they get a contract like that, you can very well see him playing like Joey Graham for the entirety of it.

Ex. See Jamario Moon, Sonny Weems

Have we lost our marbles? The only thing I'd offer this guy is a 1yr minimum contract and if he proves himself for a full season then talk more money.

Well my suggestion is essentially a 1 year deal... with 2 team options after that. Lock him up for 4 years for cheap while he's unproven, if it doesn't work out then don't bring him back. If it does work then we'll have him for longer but for cheap.

Weems was and is good. Triano was using him out of position.

but what about Ben Uzoh? I really like him. Provides defense rebounding and can penetrate the paint, all things we need. OK court vision and decision making to boot

Uzoh has been good in recent games but he has been pretty inconsistent.
That said I think he is perfect for our 3rd string point guard position.

If we want to give him a minimum contract Casey should sit start hiding him on the bench, it might already be to late. Look around the league, their are a lot of guys like Anderson getting paid 2-3 million, many of them more.

$1.5M is a good starting point like HBB suggested, but their is no reason he might not get 2-3M a year with a good agent. Looks to me like he is a mature player with a good head on his shoulders.

you just don't get over 1.5 mil based on a ten-day contract...it's not even enough to create a blip on the radar. a good agent exploits market forces, but there aren't any market forces for this guy cause no one knows who he is.

If they honestly think he's a good fit moving forward, they should try to lock him up a bit longer term. And if that happens they'll have to pay a little more than min. Between mgmt and his agent, they'll need to find a happy medium. It would suck to sign him to a cheap one-year deal only to see him walk right after that, or end up getting overpaid here after that.

i'm thinking Anderson himself will just be happy to have a multi year deal with any team in the NBA regardless of dollar amount.

As a starting point yes. But he is going to have an agent that is going to advise him against limiting himself unnecessarily. A multi year deal at minimum ties him up regardless of how well he plays, when he could otherwise be looking at a good payoff in a hurry. So there has to be a nice point somewhere in the middle, where he can be happy with longer-term security while getting a bit more than just the minimum. He'd be nuts to take min for more than a one year deal if he is advised properly, but at the same time he has to look at giving up potentially bigger contracts if he accepts the longer-term deals. Both sides bring a certain premium to the table.

reminds me of a gary forbes scenario.... seasoned guy comes in, plays decent enough, looks alright, another team likes him and offers him two years at 1.5 per..... anything more than this is beyond foolish. He's never likely to be starter material but he's decent off the bench. kind of like gary forbes.

There is no need to offer him that much, the guy wants to play in the nba and he will take anything.

The only thing he should be offered is a contract to the end of the year and an invite to training camp. Anything more is crazy.
