Default Alabi?

With Grey out with his heart problem. Why hasn't Alabi gotten any burn?
Alabi while having not played much in general, is still I believe a slight improvement on Grey.
So why has he not seen the court? Is there something that we don't know?

I recall reading an article where Casey hinted he's really raw and not really ready to play at the NBA level.

Raptors head coach Dwane Casey likes the 7-foot-1 centre’s work ethic and some of the things he brings to the table, but recognizes that what Alabi needs most of all, probably can’t be provided by the club this season.

“Really, Solo needs to play more than anything else to learn the NBA game and adjust to the speed,” Casey said after practice on Friday.

“A summer league would have been great for him. All the workout drills don’t really help him (as much as game situations).”

Casey admitted that the NBA Development League could be an option for Alabi this season, though such a move likely wouldn’t come anytime soon since: “right now, we need all the healthy bodies.”

You know, I never really understood why each pro team doesn't have their own farm team, rather than just affiliates.

isn't that the case in all leagues. Minor league teams have private owners 90% of the time.

He still needs more experience and is still a raw player. Sorta like a poor mans Thabeet. Good size but week and really need to work on their offensive skills

On the bright side, he played for 15 seconds in last night's game and didn't embarrass himself.

You know you stink when the coach plays you for 15 seconds a game.

I'm not looking forward to the games where Amir and Magloire are injured and Gray, Ed Davis and Alabi are the Raps centers.

That is what I've been saying for a while now. This season is meaningless. Best way to have him develop is to give him time. If he was drafted in the first round (like he was projected) I don't think they'd be letting him rot. Why not just let him play 15-20min (baring fouls) and see what he can do?

Really though, it's not like if he fucks up continually that were going to be hurt by it at all.

From what I saw in summer league last season he is a very good FT shooter, a very good mid range shooter, draws a lot of fouls under the basket. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder being picked 50th and wants to prove the doubters wrong.

Flaws: Very skinny (has added bulk since then), looked raw & awkward at times.

The potential is there at 7'1", if he develops a post game he can be a very good C.

I think Casey can also turn him into a very good defender.

Alabi can't even dribble a basketball. Check out the footage from training camp
