its true, while he may have a small gut in the photo his nipples are clearly quite small which can only mean his skin is hardly being stretched by lard

i don't think any Raptor has potential to be a top 10 player in the league like T-Mac was.
I think Jonas and DeMar have potential to be all stars.
That's based on Jonas' improvement curve the last 4 years which was incredible year to year. But it has to continue on that pace for a few more years. Right now he'd be 8th best player on this team, at best.

So I think either way you look it, whoever averages double double or not next year... You need to think tank-first. Your superstar has to come from 2012 draft.

like t-mac was? i'm sorry, but i don't care how talented you are as an individual. if you play on good teams with good players - not great but good - and you are a top 10 player in the league, you will get past the first round. t-mac was a bad leader and a bad facilitator, and he didn't make his teammates better. you can't be top-10 with those huge flaws.

to be fair there was a time there in orlando when tmac probably had top 10 trading value

but yeah he was always a loser, should have retired after his scoring title and left em wondering what if

seeing as less than 20 players average a double/double, its safe to say he won't get it

Remember how much hype Anthony Randolph was getting a year and a half ago? Let's temper expectations...... potential isn't always achieved

And last year in Minnesota he averaged 12/5 in only 20 minutes. Anthony Randolph, given the minutes can be pretty good. And Ed Davis last season when given minutes proved to be quite good, double double good. So imo Ed Davis is on track to meet and maybe surpass expectations. It's all up to him as for how good he becomes b/c the instincts are all there to become an impact player. He led our team in total rebounds and missed nearly 20 games. IMO given 30mpg he's a 12/10/1.5 player as it is.

Well, IF the Raps get a legit starting center it will be tough to average a double double coming off the bench. IF the Raps get that starting 5 then IMO I expect to see 10/8/1.3 in 20-25 mpg off the bench for Ed - since Bargs will be starting and getting the bulk of the 4spot minutes.

He averaged 11.3 and 10.4 per 36 last year. Given the minutes, he'd almost be a shoe in for a double double average. I voted yes in optimism, but it will depend on his minutes more than anything.

Oh, and with the Raps giving up a .482 FG% last year, and Casey being a defensive coach, they should improve enough to have a few more defensive rebounds available to them, which will help a little too.

Assuming a drop to the league average (optimistic, I know) .459 FG%, and the same number of total shots against, that leaves 3607 missed shots versus last years actual 3455 missed shots - an increase of about 2 extra misses per game, which could be a half rebound per game from Davis easily enough (he nabs 22% of available defensive rebounds), if he plays a majority of minutes.

that's some nice number crunching. it is kind of optimistic, sure - as in, it's quite impossible to reach that .459 FG% with the current situation at the center, and if there's a new decent 5 then Davis will obviously not get neither mintues nor rebounding % to claim that half rebound.

but there's room to be optimistic, indeed. Bargs could get traded. There are centers who are incredible at boxing out but don't claim a huge rebounding % themselves. Jeff Foster comes to mind of this year's free agents. If you get one of those, it really facilitates rebounding opportunities for Ed Davis.

ye thats the thing, the problem is, hes going to be going against Bargs and amir for that spot. Who knows how the depth at PF is going to work out once the season starts.

Im thinking

Bargs/Amir/Ed

as the season progresses though, i think that will change

meh, when you look at it closely - i won't check dates but he had only 1 or 2 strong chances to advance. In terms of surrounding cast.

It was his first year in Houston and then again a few years later when they all got healthy for the end of season.
But in the first case, they needed a couple months to gell together.
In the second case, Yao missed a ton of games before the All Star break.
So, both times they didn't get good standings.
And they lost close series to monster teams.
Those were T-Mac's best situations.

Other than that, Orlando teams were piss poor. He had Grant Hill on one leg and Mike Miller? That's worse than what Kobe had before Gasol, and Kobe couldn't get out of round 1 either.
And Houston, it was either Yao injured, or TMac injured, or both.

It's not like he had these numerous amazing opportunities in his prime.
He failed, and for that he's probably not a Hall of Famer. But those failures get exaggerated. Never a top 10 player? The guy was All NBA 1st team several times.

I'll be curious to see if Ed Davis will emerge as the next guy in a long list of players who "steal rebounds from Bargnani". lol.
