Adding O'Neal Could Be A Fatal Combination For Raps

A paper in Cleveland did an article regarding how the East looks now since the number of changes that have taken place so far. Check out what they had to say about out Raptors:

If general manager Bryan Colangelo can add a big, physical guard, things may take a turn for the better.

Thoughts? :confused2:

purely international style?, the idiot that wrote that doesnt have a clue. lol

He hasnt watched an international league game in his life.

fancylad 07-04-2008 11:47 AM

huh? seems kind of ridiculous if you ask me. now that our second best player is also an inside force, why would we still be solely a perimeter oriented team? would Sam not employ tactics suited to a new found inside presence/strength?

this blurb is stupid.

the reason why we were such a jumpshooting team in the past is because we never had that toughness inside. now we do.... at least we should.

Superjudge 07-04-2008 12:06 PM

The blurb is fine.

He stated the obvious.

They are a jump shooting team.

And Bosh and O'Neal are a deadly duo.

All he is saying is a bad ass 3 guy would help get us some trips to the line and change the identity a bit.

Whats wrong with that?

I know Sam has his detractors. I know this.

But does this guy honestly think the first team meeting is gonna be...

"Jermaine! Good to have you here. Start working on the outside jumper."

A "perimeter oriented team" with it's best two players at the 4 and 5? That should be interesting to see...:haha:

well he's saying that the Oneal addition won't change anything for one. I think it will.

Perimeter oriented and jump shooting are two different things though, no?

I have no problem with Toronto as a jump shooting team if they work inside out to get open shots. But if the offense is regularly run through Bosh or Jermaine, then it is hardly perimeter oriented.

Superjudge 07-04-2008 12:18 PM

ya but it aint anything yet.

they aint saying anything

so it isnt anything to get all upset over.

well, the problem for me is the fact that he says the raptors play like outside of the NBA teams wich is not true. Just because they shoot a bunch of 3pointers every game doesnt mean thats international style.

International style is all about defense and more midrange shooting.

San Antonio is much more similar than any other team.

Gurk 07-04-2008 12:38 PM

raps dont play an international style of basketball and the only reason this guy thinks that is because the raps have a few, maybe more than any other NBA team, international players

moremilk 07-04-2008 01:14 PM

exactly - it's funny that the perception is that international game is all about 3pt shooting, when in fact it's not ... And last time I checked, most champions in the past years were very good 3pt shooting teams (who also shot a lot of 3 pointers). On the other hand, ALL champions in the past decade had a high quality big man AND a high-quality slasher.

Everytime I read the title of this thread I get visions of O'Neal going postal and killing everyone.

EazyBalla 07-04-2008 01:46 PM

The Cleveland media is just mad that LeBron is leaving in a couple years and they want to make themselves feel better so Lebron stays. He should have thought, who will teams double team - Bosh or O'neal? That is where the "international game" comes into effect, it leaves guys like Kapono, Parker and Calderon for the wide open three.

Superjudge 07-04-2008 01:50 PM

ok who cares if he called it "international", you know what he mean't.

Honestly, why waste energy on shit if you already know it isn't important.

EazyBalla 07-04-2008 02:04 PM

He continues to say in the article:

Quote:

Atlanta: If the Hawks lose Smith, their collective goose is cooked — and either Milwaukee or Miami will leapfrog them as a playoff squad. The good news for Atlanta is the state of the rest of the conference. Indiana’s pieces don’t fit together, New Jersey has thrown in the towel, Chicago is as dysfunctional as a team can be, Charlotte will never win with Michael Jordan in charge, and New York is an embarrassment.
This guy really thinks Everyone other than Cleveland Sucks.
You don't diss Jordan like that.

Not to mention it's hard to argue with his analysis of the East there. He basically called all the shitty teams shitty.

And Jordan has been beyond awful as an exec.
