Default ACC to get a new banner

It's Raptors related in the sense that it's in our arena.

here goes (link):
MLSE to raise Bon Jovi banner at ACC - Sportsnet.ca

Tim Liewike is officially a goof.

and yes this makes it harder for me support my favorite basketball and hockey teams - however small a factor this is.

There's why. That's a lot of appearances, must be near the top for ACC.

Still kind of dumb.

Tie together the entertainment business with the business of sport. Celebrity is celebrity. Business is business. The love of music and the love of the game are not required so much anymore. This is not new. This is just Toronto buying into the whole synergy shit. I find it very sad, but probably necessary for the right perceptions among the right people.

This doesn't even have anything to do with money. It's just weird to be honest.

this is not being done by the raptors. it is being done by MLSE, who own the ACC. the ACC is not just a basketball stadium. it is a multi-purpose entertainment venue. i see absolutely nothing wrong with this.

who cares? i dont understand how this makes anyone a goof or makes it harder or easier for you to support the raptors. it seems like a pretty trivial thing thats happening. its only a discussion because its still the offseason. people love to overreact.

they want to honor a guy who has made them a lot of money and keep him coming for years, get it cha ching, less dates to worry about filling around leafs and raptor games, building pretty much packed all year,

it makes great business sense but when comes to banners around sporting hall of famers who lived in the city for years and a guy in bon jovi who comes once every couple of years

Who cares? It's called conducting yourself with a level class and representing yourself with class. The rafters of an arena is traditionally a place where you celebrate your team's history through achievements and honoring individual players. Putting a singer up there because he's played some concerts here totally inappropriate. Nevermind that it's a total wanker like Bon jovi - it doesn't even matter although it adds to the horror of the whole thing. It totally cheapens the whole Raptors and maple leafs experience.

If we had any banners to put up there, I might be bothered. Until this team has something meaningful to put up there, they can do whatever they like with the rafters.

Sometimes being so hip hurts, eh?

I agree with Wu.

Also, this is more common than we think.

Here are a few other examples I found in about 2 minutes.

Quote:
In 2008, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the arena, it was announced that The Palace would be raising banners to the ceiling for musical acts that have had multiple sold-out shows at venues owned by Palace Sports & Entertainment. Bon Jovi was the first to get a banner, in February, followed by Neil Diamond, in July. In addition, these artists received banners outside the building on lightpoles along with other members of Palace Sports & Entertainment's most attended acts, including Kid Rock, Bob Seger, Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies, Van Halen, Rod Stewart, Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Tim McGraw, Jimmy Buffett and Britney Spears.
MSG:

Quote:
In addition, the number 12 hangs to celebrate Billy Joel’s record breaking 12 sold out nights in the Arena (Feb-April, 2006) and the number 60 in honor of Elton John’s 60th performance at The Garden on his 60th birthday (March 25, 2007).

Impossible. That averages out to 35k per show.....I saw a sold out show at the Rogers Centre that didn't even have 35k. Obviously it depends on the configuration of the stage. The biggest crowd I've seen at the ACC was 15k and that was sold out. I guess you can sqeeze 20k in there if all seats/sightlines are made available.

I think it's stupid but really when you think about it this is not just a sports facility.
