4th Best Rebounding team in the entire League... eat that ESPN!

Well, it wasn't long ago, when everyone was calling Toronto the worst defensive team in the league. But I dare them to say that now. We're above middle in almost every defensive category and the 4th best team in the entire NBA in Rebounding period.

I'm still waiting for an apology from Kenny the Jet and Cheryl Miller .... who still laugh and scoffs at any mention of the Raptors. Or at least a mention of the vastly improved defence. Keep it up Raps.... they've definitely been fun to watch... and I'm liking that they're giving Klieza some time down in the 4 position. (I'm also secretly hoping to see Peja play some minutes.... but I know we're going young and are probably going to trade him.)

Well folks, sometimes you've got to cut the fat to get those kind of rebound results... and I'm placing Bobble hands Bosh on notice. Dude... what position do you play any ways? He rarely is in the post, and he can't dribble well enough to be a Shooting forward, or Point Forward. I love that the other day on the TNT after show, they called Bosh out on not being a franchise player, because I've been saying that for... well the entire stay of Bosh in Toronto. Now I will say this... he is a really great player, and probably an all star quality one at most times. But his stats were way inflated playing with the raptors ... kind of like Shawn Marion back in the days with the Phoenix Suns, also a great player, but not a franchise player. I say if bosh wants to watch some video on a real post player, he should watch the rookie Blake Griffin, the guys got natural rebounding skillz. (i.e. he understands rudimentary physics.... angle of incidence equals angle of refraction... or in the case of a rim... some time it's straight back at you. And he actually moves into position. Bosh... well, he stands around. Miami, congrats on your big 3... to bad you don't have any post players on that team.

Tis All....

we have yet a defensive mindset, who is way better than 2 last years, maybe 10 years.

But don't forget, they are not consistent right now, and even if they beat some great teams (orlando, boston, okc) right now they are in the middle of the entire league in standing.
so maybe defense is better, and maybe we have improve, but don't forget the season is still young.

The fact, that espn laugh at raptors, is not like they don't do this with other team like mini, phili, wash, nets, indi past seasons, etc...
they just prone the great teams, and dislike the losing teams.

maybe it's only time for raptors fan to show they like their team for what they are. and maybe if the crowd was always cheering up like yesterday against OKc, maybe the player will show this more often.
it's a circle. if player play well, crowd show some noice, if the crowd show some noice, the player play better....

it's a young and growing up team, so let's showing them that we like them for their effort.

When they lose against Atlanta, i see many fan said that raps are bad, but have you think that Atlanta was simply better, and pley better defense, because they play together for 3 year or more.

so don't take the car without the wheel... it's an all thing. player need time, comentator need time to watch raps game (what they don't do often, i presume.)

And espn isn't on Canada TV, NO ?
so maybe they can afford to make jokes about raps, because the crowd tv doesn't matter this.

Some small market teams are doing rather well in the NBA right now, like Salt Lake City, San Antonio, and Oklahoma City. These franchises have been packing in arenas every night of the week for years. On the other hand, places like New Jersey, Toronto, and the LA Clippers can't even give tickets away. And the fricking Heat, with two of the biggest names in basketball, can't even sell out their home games. Big market, small market? None of it matters. What it will ALWAYS come down to is how well a town supports it's team and shows up.

I agree with the cheering... It'd be nice for it to be loud. I can see fans getting more into it and making it a hostile environment for road teams though. Everything from the noise level.. to the counting down the shot clock... early... 5 ...4.. 3.. 2....1... how many times have you seen opposing team players hoist up a forced 3 or 2 point shot this year with their coaches scratching their heads, because the player fell for that trick?

ok guys, sorry to bring some facts to this thread, but we are actually the 13th overall rebounding team in the league, 100 boards behind the t-wolves, and 5 rpg behind them on average.

we are 6th overall in offensive rebounds, and 22nd in defensive rebounds... can someone please tell me where they got the idea that we were the 4th best rebounding team in the league??

PLEASE??!!

4th in differential - TOR rebounds subtract opponent rebounds. Which is all that really matters.

Of course, we are a little worse in advanced stats, 5th in ORB% and 13th in DRB%, but still, waaaaaay better than anyone expected.

So Bosh's stats were inflated playing for a shitty team, yet Griffin's aren't. :confused2:

Now I love Griffin... LOVE him... but honestly.... they're 2 different types of players.

Griffin's stats are inflated. Put Bosh on the Clippers and he'll average 30/15

x_kaptain_x 12-04-2010 12:48 PM

As long as we're not bottom 10 I'm happy. It seems we out rebound teams more than we're out rebounded, so I'm down.

10gizzle 12-04-2010 12:55 PM

I'd venture to say that Griffin not only has the athletic aspect of rebounding on lock, but he also has a fairly good understanding of caroms and where rebounds will go depending on the shot...That being said, his stats are DEFINITELY inflated.

Guy's incredibly exciting though. Can't complain.

Toronto's been pretty bad defensively. Less than a week ago I saw them look completely unable to defend anything. Now Cheryl Miller needs to apologize? A little early for that.

Shack 12-04-2010 05:13 PM

You can throw out all those rebounding stats now that Reggie is out. They will start to fall dramatically.

How come he didn't average that on the Raps when we were losing? He had TONS of opportunities. Griffin is a rookie and is playing better then Bosh ever will.

tdotballing 12-04-2010 05:24 PM

I know that stats don't mean everything but one stat that bothers me is that we are 30th in the league in blocks per game. This means we have no inside presence at all, which is why some games it looks like a lay up line to our basket. Davis has been showing his ability to block and alter shots so hopefully when he starts playing more minutes we can improve on that.

Actually we've been awesome since Reggie went out. Over the last 3 games we've been outrebounded once by 3 (the drubbing vs Atlanta), then the last 2 games we outrebounded our opponents by 22 & 8 respectively. It's not just Reggie that has us doing so well - it's also Johnson and a bunch of guys grabbing nice rebounds in short periods of time (ie. Davis, Bargs (only recently), etc).

Lol... Griff is avging about 21 & 11 right now.... Bosh avgd 24 & 11 last season.... with a lot less talent on his team than Griff has now.

Pretty incredible how short some people's memories are.
