The 2012 Draft...

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I think even if we have the worst record this year that we will not win the lottery & probably finnish out of the top 3.

There is no way the NBA will let us get number one pick in this years draft.

At least it feels that way to me.

DDUnreal 12-05-2011 02:11 PM

But really, is there anyone that thinks the draft isn't fixed?

powerfulpanda 12-05-2011 02:25 PM

i don't think its fixed

Don Vito 12-05-2011 02:35 PM

The draft isn't fixed, get over it.

By the way, does anyone actually think the team will be bottom 3 in the league? I think the raptors can be .500

TORaptor4Ever 12-05-2011 02:39 PM

I'm incredibly skeptical when it comes to our chances of landing a top 3 pick (much less #1). That's a big part of why I'm not excited to tank.

AAAgreed!

& While I don't think the Draft is fixed for the NBA I do think it is fixed for the Raptors...

in 96 we got the #1 pick but the league decided we weren't aloud to have it? & then we got the number 2 pick instead - I called BS

& then we finally get the number 1 pick Again in 2006 after years of loosing & the NBA decides to change the age limit & rule to 18+ 1 year of college? & we missed out on Durant & (Oden, which was probably a good thing), still I call BS.

I just think there are too many things that point to us not getting a good pick this year even if we deserve it, the history is there...Maybe it's just me?

box92 12-05-2011 03:43 PM

Im not for tanking this year, this draft is deep we will get someone good no matter where we land i think

I rmb this, AI was suppose to be ours, but Stern didnt want an expansion team to have the 1st overall. Technically we did get the 1st overall we just got booted down to 2nd and settles for Camby. Talks of Durant and Oden coming out for the 2006 draft then bam, after that College rule all the top players dropped out making it a fairly weak draft. I was excited tat we had a chance at Oden tbh.

For this year if we do land top 3 who will we pick? 3/5 of them are big men. And we need a legitimate starting SF/PG, but at the same time would you really want to pass up if Andre Drummond falls to us and both Barnes/Drummond are still there. I think we sohuld also try and land in another 1st rounder mid-high

It was established beforehand that we could not get the number one pick - as such, we won the second pick.

Once again, the age limit was changed well before the lotto in 2006.

As for all those losing years between '95 and '06...

26th, 24th, 23rd, 27th, 16th, 13th, 13th, 19th, 28th, 22nd, 27th (of 29)

That's 11 years, with 4 bottom 5 appearances, including only 3 bottom 3 appearances, and 3 times not even in the lotto.

Looking at the odds at those bottom 3 places, the Raps were barely more likely to win once in that time than not at all.

But the 2 Canadian teams were the only expansion teams to ever have this rule enforced ever, in the NBA?

I know those rules were put in place before the 2 lotteries. I'm just saying when the odds R in our favour the NBA seems to always take the icing off our cake.

Accusations of bias against the Raptors is largely baseless.

Also, I believe if the Raptors finish with the worst record, they can't go lower than 4th in the draft, which would still be a good pick. Mind you, I'm not sure that they'll be bad enough to take last place.

Oh, we're tanking alright.

And I will be surprised to get 20 wins.

Why?

Chicago, Miami, Boston, Orlando, Atlanta, NY, Lakers, Dallas, OKC, etc.

The urgency they play with in the 2nd half every year will be upon us earlier.

Further, when you play 3 games in 4 nights or 3 games back to back, you target which ones you absolutey must and will win, like against the Raptors, and you load up and pound them, then take your chances with other teams with similar talent.

Metallikid 12-05-2011 06:55 PM

Guys, we haven't seen the new schedule yet but if we play 24+ games against just the Atlantic division, we're not going to do well.

Dutches 12-06-2011 12:07 AM

Tank or no tank, this will not be a .500 team with triple-back-to-back games at least twice this season.

Brace yourselves. This has the potential to be a long 66 Games.

LKeet6 12-06-2011 07:45 AM

cheer up guys! There's kind of a postive slant to be taken on ANY outcome of this season.

i believe we WILL improve this season. Our young players will all improve slightly, maybe even 1 or 2 will take a big leap and casey will either make a small or big improvement in our D. Possibly even make us more efficient in offense as well.

with all that being said, if you agree with me, then it doesn't matter hugely what our record is. We are going to have a bad record. If it's terrible we get a high pick, if it's only mediocre then our improvements will be further down the line and we still get a decent rookie coz the draft is deep.
