Raptors 2012 Coin toss

Everyone was complaining at the time that we didn't win the coin toss for the #7 pick, myself included. But was it actually good luck for this team since we ended up with Ross over Barnes?

Who would you rather have right now, Terrence Ross or Harisson Barnes?

Ross has a higher ceiling because he's much more athletic. But Barnes is the better more consistent player right now. Too early to tell

Barnes has not been consistent this season. I know, i have him on my fantasy team. For me the deciding factor is Ross is the better defender. Their numbers are pretty close this season, Ross has a better FG% + 3PT%

I think it's too early to tell, imo both Ross and Barnes will be good players

I agree that both will be good players. I personally would pick Ross over Barnes just because Ross is more athletic and seems to play both sides of the ball more effectively than Barnes.

Though in Barnes defense, he isn't starting anymore since the Warriors got Iggy, so it's tough to say how good of a player he could become. Hopefully he will get traded to another team willing to start him as I would really like for both guys to have equal chances to start so we can really compare the 2.

I wouldn't necessarily take Barnes over Ross but I think if you took him off the bench in Golden State and have him more touches he could produce at least as much as Ross is.

Definitely agree with you. If he starts he could definitely be as good, if not better than Ross, but the only way that is going to happen is if he gets moved. GS are filled with guards/SF's right now that it's too hard to give him enough playing time.

Curry, Iggy, Thompson, Crawford, Barnes, Green and Brooks (even though he hasn't hardly touched the floor for them and is not back in the D-League).

Pretty much this. Until Gay was gone and we had to give Ross tons of minutes, we wouldn't have said Ross was better. I guess Barnes always had the minutes, but on that team they don't really rely on him. I like Ross' defence better so I would pick Ross.

I'm leaning towards Barnes. I know everyone is high on Ross, especially after his 51 pointer, but the jury is still out on him. Obviously Barnes isn't there yet either, but if you look at his playoffs last year you can see that he is very capable in that starting spot. Averaged something like 16/6.

Unfortunate for him that they got Iguodala.

It's funny that this thread even exists, I remember people (myself included) were pretty bent out of shape that we lost that coin toss.

Certainly would be a different team right now.

We've yet to see either play as a focal player for long stretches so it is hard to tell. Ross has really become a true role player for this team, moves the ball well, and you can trust him to try to make a play when the shot clocks winding. Barnes also plays his role we'll but doesn't really do much else individually. I mean he's strong, but isn't agile enough to score through defenders 1v1

Imagine, if we got Barnes we wouldn't have traded for Rudy.

He has outplayed Barnes this year, Barnes looks like a mini-Gay right now. Too much ball stopping and not enough effort on defense, considering the talent he has.
Either way, it's very early in their careers.

Right now I'm excited that this thread even exists. Last summer after Casey went out and questioned Ross' mindset/motor I wasn't very optimistic, to put it mildly.

relax, it was a play on the fact that we got ross on a coin toss we lost, and people seem undecided on who's going to be better, therefore chances are 50-50 ross will come up ahead ...

it will be a few years until this matter is resolved, right now ross is on top, a couple months ago it was reversed. If barnes has a hot february, most will revert to barnes once again and so on. Both have high ceilings and whoever works the hardest will emerge the better player.

I still remember Ross' words after the draft......that people don't know him is well because of where he played college ball but he can play just as well as those guys (the ones picked before him and who were supposed to be picked before him). And maybe lack of opportunity has kept that from showing earlier. Ross with close to Demar's work ethic could be trouble. He could be........... The Phantom Menace. Duhn-duhn-duuuuuuuhn!

And keeping Ed and not having RG's massive salary for this season nor any salary next year from him or the SAK folks.
