Default 2010 plan looks awful so far

Exactly as I have been predicting here for years, the 2010 free agent class has lots of low level talent getting paid huge money this offseason with so many teams having so much money to spend.

Rudy Gay - $81 million
Amir Johnson - $34 million
Channing Frye - $30 million
Drew Gooden - $32 million (lol Drew Gooden are you kidding me)
Joe Johnson - $119 million

All on the first day of free agency! This is quickly shaping up to be the worst buyer's market since 2000 when Brian Grant, Eddie Jones, and Allan Houston were destroying their teams with insane long-term deals.

Frye and Gooden are nice players too.

It's not like they signed for max money.

And bringing up Houston, Grant and Eddie Jones?

All were fantastic players until they found themselves chronically injured.

No, but that wasn't my point. To lump him and Gay with Gooden and the others and calling them low level is assinine.

yup, teams with cap space throwing coin around
just because you have cap space dont mean you have to throw money and overspend
AJ, Frye and Gooden shouldn't be making more than $5 mil per

Its supply and demand!
The market is working as it should if JJ and Gay weren't paid what they were by there teams someone else would have.
Basically Gay it this stage is as good as Bosh was at samw stage so he deserved the money if Bosh did.
Those of you that complain about Bargs salary can see what good contract for the Raptor he signed.
Alderidge and Gay both signed for the Max.

Maybe I over exaggerated by saying "low talent" but teams are out of control

You're right about the market and the value of a player is determined by the offers and not by any "ideal" value but I agree with windex when He says that you don't throw away money just because you've got

Amir making $34M over 5 yrs in many ways is worse ... Frye and Gooden have at least been starters. I'm in no way indicating that I don't want Amir .. quite the opposite.
I just don't see Amir being legit starter any time soon.

i think BC take a solid backup PF (at least, and a probi starter in the end of the season, so i think he can do it) and to 5 years, so likely Amir is young, and we should agreed that the staff does a very good job to rising motivates players, and who have prove they have ballskills.

so i'm not borring by this contract.
Amir is a good teammate, young, energic, who prove this year he do a good job to be the bosh's backup.
during the last part of this last season, he evolve with confidence like weems and DD. i think they learned a lot during these particulars games (so hard to win) and the deception not making playoffs seems getting upper their motivation.

First and foremost, blame your precious Big three. They are creating free agency hell with their ridiculous colluded approach to their own FA situations. The have a lot to do with it.

Then Blame the teams who have used every friggan loop hole they could to basically strip their rosters to nothing, buying out and waiving everything they can to create a massive hole of cash that needs to be spent. Eventually when they don't Sign any of the major FA's. Lets face it their 9-10 big fish, and really, after a few have already signed, there will be like4-5 of um around and a shit load of teams that can get um.

so basically, lower level players will be, and already are, in high demand.

As for Amir in Toronto. This kid is opening many eyes and had a lot of people chomping at the bit to get him. It blows my mind that guys on here are angry at that signing, but f you go back, the same people are tossing out trade idea's where you get worse players for the same cash all the time.

Idiots. Really. Plain and simple Basketball morons.

Thats is all for this fine day!

True words, SJ

Anyway, OP forgot Darko and I use the term 2nd and 3rd tier players to explain free agents who are not Lebron/Wade/Bosh/Dirk/Amare or players who we call by one name

Haha!
Doctor of Hoops, please justify Colangelo's signing.
Amir 'opened-eyes' averaging 7 ppg and 6 rpg on a team that didn't make it to the playoffs? you must be joking.
Whats so great about Amir?
With all due respect, he has absolutely no post game and lacks strength down-low. I appreciate his hustle and rebounding, but by no means, does it make him worth 34 million
I understand the markets in a wrong place right now; plently of players are getting overpaid. But re-singing Amir was not a must. We just got lucky drafting a serviceable big in Ed Davis, and we even have Bargnani locked up. Another 1 or 2 bigs could easily be aquired with some minor-trades.

how many guys are more than willing to take a backseat and do the dirty work.

Even though it was a small sample size Amir was excellent in the absence of Bosh this past season shooting ridiculous percentages, running the P&R, attacking the rim, Running relentlessly, playing solid defense.

+1 No way anyone else in the league would have offered him this much cash.
