Default 2010-2011

Just thinking about the situation for next season. Ya, a lot can happen between now and then but as of now it could be a problem.

Presuming Cap ($58Mil) and Tax ($70Mil) levels are similar to this season and Bosh stays and signs for $22Mil.

SIGNED PLAYER SALARIES 2010-2011 (15 of 13-15 players signed)
Chris Bosh $22,000,000
Hedo Turkoglu $10,600,000 (signed through 2013-2014) (approx salary)
Jose Calderon $9,000,000 (signed through 2012-2013)
Andrea Bargnani $8,000,000 (signed through 2014-2015)
Reggie Evans $5,080,000 (signed through 2010-2011)
Jarrett Jack $5,000,000(signed through 2012-2013)
Marcus Banks $4,553,793 (signed through 2010-2011)
Demar Derozan $2,453,880(team options for 2011-2012 & 2012-2013)
Marco Belinelli $2,380,270 (team option for 2010-2011)

That's $69 Mil spent on just 9 players and leaves a serious shortage of bigs. Presuming they sign their 1st round pick that leaves 5 openings and few options to sign decent replacements.

DEPTH
PG: Calderon, Jack, Banks
SG: Derozan, Belinelli, ?
SF: Turkoglu, ?, ?
PF: Bosh, Evans, ?
C: Bargnani, ?, ?

Looks like a bit of a pickle, but i have a very simple solution.

Here is what we will do:

keep current Roster + Sign Wade = championships

(No it does not matter that we have a 10 man roster at that point, because lets face it wade could play with 2 other guys on the floor and still make the playoffs on a yearly basis)

oh and ya, we would have to be over the 70 mill but winning championships will make MLSE understand

And its that simple

except that when you are over the cap you can't sign free agents without exceptions. so it's really not that simple at all.

jakkal - we would have the mle and lle, no? that would give us rasho or another similar big with the lle. we could also go over the cap to sign amir if we have his bird rights... not sure where that stands. add another wing via the mle and we still have a pretty solid squad.

The only way we would have the MLE is if we are over the cap before signing Bosh, if I am notmistaken

It'd be impossible to sign Wade with the current 2010-2011 roster intact but their are some more realistic options.

All the losses are bench players. If we're stuck with a bench of Evans, Bellineli, Jack, and a 1st round pick our guards would be ok, just wondering about the bigs especially if Bargs or Bosh get injured.

I think we'd be ok. Even though Bosh isn't signed right away we still have his rights and his potential max salary would count towards the cap until he actually signed. So we'd have the MLE to use IF MLSE was willing to go above the Tax level which is questionable.

We'd likely lose the MLE and BAE if Bosh's rights were rescinded or he signs on with another team without a S&T.

Think the BAE/LLE is gone next season since we used it this season for Rasho.

It may come down to the order the players are signed. If BC has to go over tax to sign Bosh then MLSE will be more likely to agree. If BC signs Bosh before other replacements then MLSE would likely not want to spend above minimum salary on bench players.

Basically it's harder for MLSE to say no to signing the face of the franchise then to say no to signing quality backups.

No to the lle.

Used it this year and it is only a Biannual exemption

Just a note to CB4 salary.

The absolute most Bosh can earn next season is $17,150,000 if he picks up his option year.

If Bosh signs a new FA contract, he'll earn $16,500,000 (last years salary +5%) This is because the cap dropped this year and will likely drop more next year!

Exactly, his salary starts there and would end at a whopping 27Mil in the last season, at least that was posted here in an article this week.

Actual numbers:

Calderon- 9Mil
Bargnani- 8Mil
Evans- 5.08Mil
Jack-4.8Mil
Derozan- 2.4Mil
Belinelli- 2.3Mil
Banks- 4.7Mil
Turkoglu- 10.5Mil (roughly)
-----------------------
= 46.7Mil + 17.150Mil (Bosh)

Total - 63.85Mil

Colangelo said he was going to have the MLE/LLE to spend even after re-signing Bosh (if he re-signs?) or through S&T.

lol my bad... I went with the max salary posted in another Bosh thread.

Even at 63.85Mil that doesn't leave much room for signing 6 more players especially if the cap comes down further. I'm sure we all have serious doubts that MLSE will approve going above tax level. After signing the pick (approx 1.5Mil) that only leaves about 3-4 Mil for 3-5 more players.

Maybe they can S&T Wright and Banks for some bench players.

If anything, we've seen that Colangelo is creative when it comes to dealing with the cap and any potential cap issues.

I'm not worried about it because trades can be made during the season to address any issues.
