i give him about a C+ to B-
shows flashes of star like quality, but more often is just very average
has poor decision making, jump shot is not consistent, often tries to take over the game but cannot
plays good enough man on man D, like his effort to try and drive the ball but at times is out of control
he is a well-spoken man, not really a bball quality but its always good to hear intelligent answers

He showed a lot of promise towards the end of the season when he wasn't trying to force the action.

I think that over time, and with more maturity, he'll become a true PG. I don't see Bayless as a combo guard in the mold of Barbosa, Terry, or Crawford.

He gets a B because he improved over the course of the season. If he can improve his shooting accuracy, and learn to not force the action on offense as much, he can be a solid, reliable NBA PG.

Jerryd is still very young. He jumped outta Arizona early. He's got the right frame and intimidating mindset to make a long career in this league. He joined ya'll halfway through the year. Was it his fault that Triano's figure 8 offense was a bit confusing first time he'd seen it?

You guys really gotta trust me here... GIVE THE GUY THE ROCK

A PG can do both. If he's giving us 15-16/7 i'd be pretty happy.

Until the All-Star break he was unbelievably inconsistent and when his minutes were more limited (14-20mpg) he struggled to get things going. It was only when his minutes were extended that he played well. IMO he'll pout if he's not the starter next season, and if he doesn't pout outwardly he'll still be inconsistent coming off the bench. He also needs to be more consistent defensively, hopefully Casey helps there b/c Bayless has the tools to be better on D. I'm still not sold on him as the starter long term though but i wouldn't mind seeing if he can do it.
strongly agree with everything you said there mate. I honestly pretty much hated bayless in the 1st half of the season. A chucker who's not even got a good shot was my opinion on him. But 2nd half of the season he made me think twice, definitely. Needs to show he can pass better, and yeah, just don't go for quite so many pts. Needs to show he can produce in fewer mins, not push it so much. What if jose's having a great game (unlikely some of you will prob say!) or in 1 or 2 years time if we've got another young PG and he's maybe sharing the minutes.

I think what we're talking about here is basically bball IQ isn't it? which a PG really must have. He's young, chippy, agressive, a good team-mate (morale wise,) lots to like about him.

I don't disagree with the criticisms too much, but I always remember that he was forced into a role as a guy they wanted to carry the offense coming off the bench. He didn't really accept the idea at first, and that made life difficult for him, and then he accepted it and did alright. Then he was forced into the starting lineup due to Jose's injury, and again his role was changed dramatically.

When he was in the backcourt with Leandro, it sometimes worked rather well, but again with injuries, that wasn't something that could get built upon. Basically this guy was stuck trying to develop chemistry with different guys every other week, and the team did an iffy job of defining his role from the start. This season, with a better of idea of what he can do at his best, and where he should be constrained, and hopefully a chance to develop a feel for some other guys that can be built upon, it's possible that a lot of what he gets criticized for just goes away.
