is it even possible to shoot 17.7% from 3 as a guard, man that's bad?
I watched him play in Europe and on Croatia and I thought he would be a little better as a back up PG

Below expectations and I'll qualify that answer.

Now, anyone here who's known me, knows I'm either his biggest or one of the biggest fans of his. Fuck, I even have his Raptors jersey. However, his biggest problem since his days with KK Split was hitting the mid range jumper. I thought he'd work on that while in Europe. He came over here and it still didn't look good and it's bothered me all season long. I watched him in warmups before the Boston game in January and he took about 10 shots from the corner, hit maybe 1. Unacceptable. He did alot of very good things, but I was disappointed because I feel that he's limiting himself.

Also, at the end of the year he ended up trying to do too much and didn't get enough PT by the great developer Triano.

One positive though? Good defender (doesn't leave his feet or buy headfakes), willing to penetrate and the ONLY player who really showed up every game and gave full effort.

So yeah, D. Harsh, I know.

I liked him at the beggining of the season, most of the time looking to pass, but if you ask me those game winners agaisnt SA where really bad for his development because from that momment he always tried to do too much. Reminded of Mr. Tj Ford, out of control, but without Tjs killer ability.

i was actually expecting this kid to rot on the bench all year and have solomon be our backup, but instead Roko came out and played some pretty good ball... and poor solomon was traded then released.
Roko played decent minutes and earned his spot behind Jose. some games he would play great, others he'd show his rookie inexperience.

he played good man to man D, and made some nifty passes throughout the year, but his shot was abismal.
hopefully that will come in time.

as far as my expectations go, he exceeded them becuase i didnt think he'd even play to begin with.

If a second round pick, shows flashes of something, how can you not be impressed? Typically 2nd round picks are supposed to NOTHING.

He's got a future as a back up PG. I'll say that much.

D but,
I will say I like his game and I see potential there.

I do not understand how any player can get to this level of basketball without being able to toss the ball in the ocean from the beach. Especially a guard.
We keep hearing that Roko's a "gym rat". What the f' is he doing while in the gym all that time? He better figure out what he's doing wrong and come back with a decent shot next year or he won't last.
For a guy advertised as a passer he sure didn't give up the ball much. I appreciated the fact that he was willing and able to drive as much as the next fan, but come on. He didn't have to force up some running one-hander or lay-up EVERY time. Get in the lane and dish the ball kid. Yeah he was a rookie but coming from playing against professional competition in Europe, I expected more from him.

On the plus side, I like his confidence. He's long and deceptively quick.
He's got some game and if he works on it he could really help the Raptors next season.

I like him...think he's going to be solid...but i was disapointed in his shooting mostly. I would have expected more work to be done on that before coming here. Everything else kinda met my expections. D+

+1

If he can't improve drastically on his shooting ability, he'll be back in Europe within a few years imo. Right now he's easy to defend and if he can't make it harder to defend him he'll have a short NBA career. Too often to, he'd penetrate and would be guarder properly and didn't know what to do with the ball, looking lost, often throwing the ball away (turning it over).

I was expecting him to give numero ocho some help this season but I haven't seen much to be honest. Our offense doesn't complete collapse when he runs it (unlike what Daniels is doing when Chris Paul sits) but it can be pretty stagnant at times. He needs to use the whole off season to improve his shooting mechanics and learn to distribute the ball better. Everyone sees potential in him, let's hope he delivers.

Agreed.

However, I wonder if it's really just about talent.

Maybe he just can't shoot.

That's a good question actually. I jump between improper coaching and lack of patience.

Shooting is all about being patient with your consistency. Roko has a different look each time he shoots the ball. Hell, bring in Dave Hoopla, see if he can find any mechanical kinks. If not, then it's talent, which is a shame really, because he has all the essential tools except for the shot and if the shot was working at a stellar in the mid range and jamario moon adequate in the perimeter, we'd have a solid, solid player.

At least half of his nickname is true haha

I don't know, I didn't expect much from him but I thought he would have done a better job backing up Caldy but he didn't. I mean we had to start giving the ball to AP to run the point sometimes, I don't think that was in the plans.

D+. I think I finally realize how he went from a potential mid first rounder to a second round draft pick in the '05 draft... Guy has tons to work on, but I think that everyone overreacts because everyone thought he would come out of the gate guns a blazing.

I think that his flaws are obvious; he obviously can't shoot, tries to do too much for himself which as a result stifles the team offense a whole when he's running the point. Defensively he has his lapses too despite his length and quickness. I think it's safe to pinpoint a lot of his problems to his lack of focus/basketball I.Q. He shows a ton of immaturity when it comes to running a team but with a guy like Calderon to take him under his wing I'm sure he'll be able to get a few tips on how to be more efficient with the basketball.

What I do like is his length. At 6'5 you can tel that he can bother some of the smaller guards in the league and he's not a stiff when it comes to quickness either. I think he's got some very good tools to work with, but he needs time and for some reason everyone throws him under a bus like he has no chance to become better.

well it all depends on what your expectations of him were for the season
for me, i expected nothing, probably at the level of when jose was a rookie and if that was my expectations for him then he actually was better than jose as a rookie
but keeping in mind as a whole how he for the season it wasn't really that good so i gave him a met expectations

Well I think it can go either way; it is never automatic to say that he won't improve either. I think that work ethic is a big determinant of how well a player can improve his shot, and most signs indicate that the kid does have a pretty good work ethic. Obviously I can be horribly wrong and turns out to be the biggest scrub ever, but if he's willing to put in the time and effort to work on his shot the chances of him improving are that much better.

His 3pt% is nothing considering he doesn't shoot much 3s either. What I like is his drives, easily beating his defender. What I don't like is that he loses control when meets secondary defender big man. Thus his layups miss much too often and without control he can't kick the ball back out or dribble out.

He definitely has future. And expectations... Well I hoped for more, but considering extremely sporadic playtime he did well.
