thought he would be completely useless, ended up being slightly useful at times. i suppose that means he exceeded expectations.

We knew he had to play well this year if he didn't want to play himself out of the league, but I don't know if we expected him to play well. B-.

everyone should give him a C

I think most knew he would be a 7/8th man averaging 8 and 4

No..if you read any of the posts above you most expected he'd play himself out of the league, so 8 and 4 with some significant contributions is above reasonable expectatins. B

C
I guess he showed in spurts that he can be effective. He didn't look as tentative under Triano the way he did under Mitchell. It just proves that it's easier to play when you aren't afraid to make mistakes.
On a team desperate for a lockdown guy on the perimeter, he should be a better one on one defender. It's amazing how none of the players on the team seem willing to put in the extra effort to fill those types of roles. Joey has the skills to pay the bills, just not enough going on upstairs, or so it would seem.
He seems like a nice guy which might be part of the issue. More intensity or aggression from him could lead to better results. You can't teach that stuff though, you either are or you aren't that type of guy.
He clearly enjoys being a Raptor, but I've got my doubts that he'll be back.

Joey resembled the 2008-2009 Raptors. When there was adversity and the need to fight & step up, Joey choked big time. This guy has been given every opportunity to be the wing player the Raptors desperately needed in the four years he has been here, heck he was the starting small forward position in his rookie position, but Joey has shown no consisitency, lack of basketball IQ, and lack of intensity/effort in his tenure with the Raptors. When Bosh said get me some BASKETBALL PLAYERS at the end of the season, he means bye bye Joey Graham. Joey Graham is a great athelete, but not a basketball player. I give Graham an F, and he should not be retained by the Raptors. By the way, where is David Noel? Joey Graham will be joining him soon in couple of years.

Joey did play with a bit more passion and fire this year and he did play smarter basketball at times and he's well respected by his teammates and recognized as a leader in the locker room. If he could be signed to a contract to similar to Humps I'd be happy.

If he wants more than that I wouldn't hesitate to let him test the open market.

i hated Joey Graham for 3 straight years.... until this season.
i realized that it wasnt joey's fault that we drafted him instead of Granger, so i decided not to personally hate him anymore. and you know what, i actually began to like him - just a little.
there were a few games in a row (earlier on in the year) where i was pleasantly surprised with his game... he looked explosive and confident.
there were even a few times that i hoped he would start...
Joey has all the attributes to be a very solid player, and i'll wait for the day where he consistantly puts up 14/6....

until then, he will always be a solid 8th man, and intriguing trade bait for other teams.

Sorry to say, but the Joey Graham you see today, will be the same Joey Graham in the next 3 to 5 years. The guy averaged 6.7 pts and 3.0 rebounds in 20 minutes in his rookie season, and Bad Joey averaged 7.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 20 minutes in 4th year in the NBA. Like a prevoius posters mentioned, either you're born with agressiveness, intensity or you're not. Joey doesn't have it. We shouldn't pay a guy 2 or 3 million a year who shows up 1 in very 5 five games. There is a reason why we have the worst bench in the NBA.

C I suppose.

When Joey's at the top of his game, he's a great energy player off the bench that is capable of causing problems with his massive bulk. I'm happy to see that there were some games where he would recognize this and absolutely manhandle his defenders in the post and get fouled or get an easy layup/floater in the paint, which is a big time need for the Raptors. He's also shown that he's very capable from mid range and is almost automatic from the top of the circle if he has the opportunity to take that one extra dribble to get in rhythm. He also threw down some pretty good dunks and generally went to his strengths (going inside) a lot more this season instead of trying to do too much.

With that being said, Graham kind of faded away after February. When Marion really started hitting his stride with the Raptors, Graham lost a significant chunk of playing time. You'd think that he'd be able to beat out the likes of Krapono in the depth chart, but he simply didn't (instead they both got around 17-20 minutes a night). I was also disappointed that Graham still has yet to develop a three point shot, which is something I think could really help him earn a lot more minutes in the perimeter-oriented system the Raptors use. Overall, I think Graham has been the same player every year skill-wise, just this year he has somewhat found his niche and mentally he was in the game a bit more than he usually has been.

Overall, I am not too pleased with his lack of development, but I am glad that he has found out to somewhat utilize his strengths. Then again you have to factor in that it is his contract year, so I'm not sure whether or not you'll continue to see development or see regression in his play after he's gotten his paycheck.

When there is competition, Joey Graham fades away. Last year when there was Kapono and Delfino, Joey showed no fight. When Marion showed up and displayed what a good small forward could do, Graham faded away. Do you remember the New jersey playoffs when the Raptors put Joey as the starting small forward. Joey Graham choked big time and gave no production. Joey admitted in his shortcomings, and the Raptors had to move Bargnani to small forward to get some production from the SF position.
