F. After the playoofs in Orlando where Kaps was ripping it, by averaging 19-20 points I thought he was going to continue that stellar play going into this year but his play was reallly garbage.

I too said F.

As Gurk just alluded too regarding Kapono, during the Orlando series the man was unstoppable leaving many with the hopes that his first season with us was a transitional one with lots of ups and downs but that was to be the type of player we'd see here on out. Boy were we wrong. Kapono continued to disappoint at an all time low this season too.

The most painful thing about Kapono is that we're stuck with him and his atrocious contract for another 2 years.

We had TJ Ford to drive and kick last year. This year we have no one driving/kicking... and Bargnani standing outside the arc as well.

D
Some of this is not his fault.
He is entirely under-utilized in the farce of an offense the team runs. The only decent looks the guy was given all year were when he was trailing the fast break.
In half-court sets he needs to catch and shoot with his feet set. Expecting him to create off the bounce and hit running or fading jumpers is out of the realm of realistic expectations.
He's a shitty defender, we all know that. He'll never be able to stay with most perimeter players one on one. Neither can Kyle Korver or Matt Carroll or most other stand still shooters in the league. The team needs to do a better job of insulating him defensively if they want to take advantage of his offensive skill.

There is no doubt that he's over-paid. He was offered the contract, you can't blame him for signing it.
The guy can hit the jumper. That's his job. It's up to him to continue to work hard, stay in shape and be ready to knock down shots when called-upon. It's up to the Raptors coaching staff to find a way to make better use of Kapono for the money.

Below expectations. I can't say he was greatly below expectations (F) because most here (me included) knew he stunk to begin with. The playoffs last year didn't convince me of shit.

he'd be effective on a better team as a spot up shooter, but on the raps, him driving, travelling every other time, and shooting 3's once in a while just isn't good enough

Horrible, horrible, horrible. He was a defensive liability all season long, and his games of hot shooting were often followed by terrible games, or games where he played a ton of minutes and couldn't get more than a couple shots off.

He was second-worst on our team in +/- (Toronto Raptors NBA stats and data from 82games.com ), and the worst player in 82games.com's Roland Rating of players on our team who play double digit minutes.

NBA.com: AutoTrader +/- Stat

those are the real stats... from NBA.com... Bargnani's +/- was MORE than 2 times as bad as Kapono's. but somehow we can build a franchise around him?

I think Kapono takes too much of a big hit from fans. Like someone said above... they offered him the contract and he signed it.. that's not his fault! if he got paid min. salary, you'd say he's doing his job. You can give Colangelo an F for Kapono's contract, but we always knew he couldn't play D... so how did he go so far below all of your expectations?

Kapono needs to be with the Spurs or something. Parker is able to drive to the basket and draw the D towards him while Jose never drives to the basket leaving Kaps with no good open shots. Of course it's his fault for not being able to create his own shots but we knew he couldn't do that to begin with.
