Default 2009-2010 Hollinger Projections - All Players

2009-2010 Hollinger Projections - All Players - ESPN

Everyone's "favourite" (on his board) John Hollinger predicts Chris Bosh will have the 9th best PER in the league, while Jose Calderon is predicted to be 28th.
Believes Turkoglu will be below "average", while Johnson should come in above.

Not a fan of the PER stat much.

but gotta laugh at the though of Bargs having a worse season than last year after continually imroving over the course of the entire season.

I like how he himself dubs his rankings as the "Hollinger Projections" as if its some sort of universally accepted system.

Bosh should live up to his spot, and I expect Jose to move up a few notches.

Andrew Bynum eh? Ahead of Gasol? Yikes. This is why I'm not a stat guy. Watching the game and going by what you see>>>>>stats.

Jose is actually pretty high in terms of PG's.

Only like 2 or 3 ahead of him.
CP3
Deron
Parker-I think if i remember from looking....

He is ahead of the likes of Kidd, Nash, Billups....

Brutal. PER is criminal to begin with. Projecting them is a capital offense.

Stephen A Smith has more cred than this guy.

I don't understand PER...Although, I've never looked into it. I try to avoid anything written by Hollinger.

Agreed. I'm more of a "Wins Produced" guy (and yes, it has drawbacks as well). PER has more drawbacks for sure.
The Bargs thing is entertaining - who knows, but I highly doubt he'll regress with consistent minutes all year.
Cheers, T

The problem with Hollinger is that he bases everything on calculated stats. The league doesn't operate on stats, stats are merely a byproduct. A stats formula can't consider how much Bargnani worked out in the gym or on his inside game and how that applies to schemes a new coach will be running. It can't consider how hard DeRozan worked on his jumper. It doesn't consider the health of a player now, when compared to the health of that player over the period of time the source data. Its a totally flawed method. We're not counting apples here. A highly knowledgeable mind will always get it more right than a calculator.
