so if it was all complete bullshit, then why would he sit Andrea down and insist that he get more rebounds? The guy set a bar and the it was not cleared.

Had he said that Andrea was a decent one-dimensional guy - he would have been horribly wrong anyway. How can a guy shooting under 40 percent for well over a month be thought to be decent? And it's not like it doesn't happen year after year. He shows flashes, and then just looks terrible. It happens within most games, starting nicely, taking good shots, and then he stops himself, just when it looks like nobody else can. He doesn't have the mindset to push through any kind of challenge, even if that challenge is just making it through 48 minutes of honest play.

No, he simply isn't good and doesn't give a damn. The later being the biggest problem and the most important reason for the former.

the number of rebounds Andrea got tonight. And Blair was quite happy to take advantage of that.

In this one Andrea certainly was a decent one-dimensional player, and that one dimension was wasted, due to what he didn't do. And what he didn't do was magnified by the faster pace which favored him offensively, and which allowed him to take on that role as the number one option. It just doesn't add up. And if you make the guy a number two or three option, it doesn't add up any better. He needs the ball in his hands early and often, and that only leads to more possessions for opposing teams to exploit him defensively.

*Looks at LX*
A bet thread on how many double digit rebounding games he ends up with at the end of the season could be a very interesting one.

Some food for thought.....

Number of double-digit rebound games this season by....

Kevin Love: 47

Andrea Bargnani: 1

Number of 3s made by....

Kevin Love: 72 (44%)

Andrea Bargnani: 54 (33%)

Bargs is probably twice the athlete that Love will ever be.... yet he's not even HALF the player.

Sad.

why on earth would you compare Love and AB?
you should just compare DD and Lebron while you are at it.

Also, while Bargnani is clearly better looking, Love has way more sex appeal. Weird.

Love's a 2nd year player playing C. He's about the same size as Bargs. He wasn't a #1 overall pick and no one expected him to blow him like this....

Why do you think it's a ridiculous comparison?

its like me comparing Bargs with Sheldon Williams, just for the sake of it.

why not?
Sheldon Williams was picked 3 spots after Bargs... next C off the board in the 2006 draft.
people expected big things from him... yet he's now a scrub averaging 4 and 5.
does this comparison make any sense? yeah, probably more sense than yours.... yet, hardly any at all.

Sure that comparison makes sense.... and I'm sure that there have been more than a few fans who have been disappointed with Williams.

I compared Bargs to Love because they're both big, white guys who shoot the 3 and have less than 5 years in the league.

One gives it 110% every game and goes after EVERY rebound....

One chucks the ball at every opportunity and does precious little else to affect the game.

Are you honestly going to tell me that you enjoy watching Bargs play? That you've enjoyed him over the last 12-15 games or so?

So I guess we should just trade Bargs for a scrub so we can tank even harder.

dont get me wrong ToRap, sometimes i do get upset watching Bargs lay bricks and lay down on defense, but the difference is, I never expected Bargs to be a monster rebounder or defensive anchor... I've watched this guy for 5 years and i know what to expect... i dont have dillusions of grandeur. He's not an allstar, he is soft, he wont grab 10 rebs a game. he isnt a passionate player. what you see is what you get with Bargs; he is a scoring big man.
what i dont understand is that some of you act is if you expected this guy to be a superstar this season or grab 10 rebs a game... i mean, if not, why else is there a new thread every other day about how shit he is?
i am not surprised by him this year, ive never expected anything amazing from him.
i expected 20 and 6... and guess what? thats what he's producing.
we've never been a great defensive team, he has never been a great defender... thats why i dont freak out when he gets owned on the defensive end. he gets owned, the team in general gets owned... its no surprise to me.
he is a good role player, nothing more, nothing less. throw a Big Center beside him and he will be a great role player.
he will never grab 10+ rebs, he will never win defensive player of the year... but he will score 20 points, and has the ability to change the game on the offensive side of the ball. take it or leave it. accept him for what he brings and move on.

Shelden Williams is a big time bust. We can say hes a scrub, but he's probably still more effective than Bargs... He is good rebounder (averaging the same numbers as Bargnani but playing 20 minutes less) and he is one of the best post defenders in the league.
Bargnani scores 20 points per game, shooting 40%, but at the same time, guys like Ilyasova, Pekovic or even Ben Wallace takes their career games playing against him.

1 is not only the number of double-doubles, but also the number of years in whom Andrea has been 1st offensive option.

Basketball is the sport of stats: well, in pts+reb+ass Andrea is the fifth best center of the league, and third in scoring. Not bad for his first year.

Of course, little things are those which make difference in that sport. But which Raptors player make them? Who plays really good defence? That's the point. You guys are frustrated for this bad season, that's normal, and is normal to be angry with the best player, the one who should make the difference. But you really think that with Perkins, Lopez, Gasol junior, Noah or Varejao the record would be better? Asd. And who scores?

Andrea is a power forward and an offensive player. He is grown a lot last summer with a real coach, Pianigiani, and also did Belinelli. This summer for European Cup Andrea will make with Pianigiani another important step, I'm sure. Give him a real center, give him a good team. Not that Raptors shit. We love intensity, character, energy... but 80% of our players wouldn't play in any other team.

Andrea has a lot of faults. He MUST work on defense, he MUST grab more rebounds, he MUST use his big body. But he actually is not the major responsable for Raptors bad record.

Sorry for my bad english

Nobody is blaming him for the record, he isn't a victim here. He is lazy and doesn't care for anything that he doesn't feel like doing. There's no excuse for that.

He must grow and he has his faults, in fact that's what I wrote in my post ("Andrea has a lot of faults. He MUST work on defense, he MUST grab more rebounds, he MUST use his big body. But he actually is not the major responsable for Raptors bad record"), but there a big difference between been a victim or the main cause. In my opinion he is neither victim nor main cause, but for sure he is not Raptors problem.
