This is a great chance to show ML$E what real Toronto FC fans/supporters think of them.

Their priorities lie in making money. Ours lie in what's best for the team. and quite frankly our corporate owners are bitch slapping the real fans of the team in the face right now - using the popularity of the team as a means of getting what they want. it's exploitation man. exploitation.

I think there's a really good chance of having a lot of empty seats for this match, and personally i hope this happens.

I don't think there are going to be a lot of empty seats. I think it'll sell out. And quickly. I mean, this might be the closest to a big name team that will ever come back to Toronto - I mean, Independente, Benfica, West Ham, Aston Villa do not compare to Real Madrid.

I think some of their bigger names will play. When a lot of these teams did a tour 4-5 years ago, many of the bigger names played.

with the high price of tickets these days
it doesn't seem unreasonable
and I think MLSE had to shell out some dough for Real to play in TO

i disagree.

Without really getting into it, i'll just say that this game stands for / represents a lot of negative things right now.

Plus, ML$E made money from the Edu transfer that still hasen't found its way into the team.

the Edu tranfer was $5 mil I thinc
MLS took a large chunk of that and I think MLSE was left with $2-2.4 mil
I think its safe to say MLSE spends and excess of $10 mil a year on TFC, plus expansion fee and BMO field
$2 mil doesn't gets u much, maybe a practice field
I don't think the Edu money is going to change TFC's fortunes
every MLS team has made transfer money and they're a lot worse off than TFC

I don't know the numbers, but i'm sure this team MAKES A LOT of money for ML$E. I don't know where you got $10 million from. really, i have no idea. Maybe you're right, maybe not.

but again, MLSE makes money from this team. you can book that.

last year

Value: $44 million
Revenue: $17 million
Operating Income: $2.1 million

so they spent $14.9 million in that year

from Forbes
numbers are probably not exact, b/c MLSE is a private company, but its close

When TFC are champs I dont think too many people will complain about MLSE making money
after all they are in business to make money

The thing is, i'm not complaining about ML$E or the team making money. Far from it, i hope they make lots of money.

My principle problem is that this team is the pretty much the best supported team in the league, but we the fans are given a pretty pisspoor product. It's been lousy for the past 2 years and it doesn't look like like there's any light at the end of the tunnel. The Real Madrid game just rubs some people the wrong way for a number of different reasons: the "temporary" real grass, the very high prices, the fact that MLSE seemingly values Madrid's needs more than TFC's, the fact that seasons ticket holders are essentially being slapped in the face, etc.

things aren't so bright and sunny in Toronto FC land right now really.

The stars will probably play but not the whole game. Thats just too much money for that a game though. There will barely be any effort by the team probably and TFC may even win. You can bet MLSE ha paid A LOT of money to Real. The only reason they play this games is because of the revenue. They usually go to Asia and you know how they pay so if Real has chosen Canada is because they are getting a very good chunk.

I wouldnt go to the game if I were you, it will probably be a snorefest. Not worth more than 40$ but thats just me. I wouldnt pay for than 40 euros to see an NBA team here.

This is one of once-in-a-lifetime things. I might not make it to Madrid to see Real play, so this might be the next best thing. I don't really trust MLSE to bring in another team of Real's calibre ever again, especially if ticket sales flop.

I understand you really want to go but 120$ Its pretty insane. Well, it could be a good game since Real is in rebuilding mode there will be a lot of players trying to show what they can do to get a spot in the roster.

BTW. Gregg Sutton has been released and Toronto traded for some defender from San Jose (Last name Garcia, I think). Also included were MLS rights to Canadian striker Ali Gerba (previously held by San Jose), who Mo intends on signing.

Just heard this on a FAN update in the car.

That's good news.

it depends. From my experience, i've only had tickets that were in the $40 area.
I'm sure there are more expensive ones. Like around $80 or so. Personally i usually go with a seasons ticket holder, so the opportunity for me to check various ticket costs hasn't really come up.

While Real coming to Toronto is a massive promotion, I just can't go to the stadium and support it.

I'd understand a marginal mark up in price, but what they're doing is simply gouging the market and telling their fans to fuck off and appealing to the casual fan who only recognizes big name teams. I'd understand raising the prices of field level seats to outrageous prices, but having even the last row in the stadium at a ridiculous price is just wrong. Yes, this is only a friendly, but you're saying, well, to those TFC fans who can ONLY afford 40 dollar seats, too bad, you're not rich enough to support the team, therefore go home and spend 3 dollars a month on GolTV to watch it there. We only want "elite" fans.

Well, to MLSE, fuck you. I'd love to see Real play. But I'm not going to pay an arm and a leg for it. I could fly to Europe, enjoy the sites, enjoy the culture of a foreign country and watch a solid footy game there for LESS than what I'd pay to see one game, a meaningless one at that.

Maybe Raul makes an appearance. Maybe Kaka (I doubt it though), hell I can only think of seeing Ruud (more likely, since he's rehabbing and needs to get into game shape) for the majority of the game. Any more players and the score could end up being 8, 9-0 for Real against TFC.

Quote:
The once-happy marriage between Toronto FC management and thousands of its fans is being strained to the point of a possible divorce. But the target of much of the ire, general manager Mo Johnston, received a vote of confidence from Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd., yesterday. A revolt from three of the main supporters clubs came to a head during Saturday's third straight team loss, underlining discontent about an expensive friendly with Real Madrid, the turf problems at BMO Field and the perceived lack of progress by Johnston in his third year with the club. Top officials from the Red Patch Boys, North End Elite and U Sector maintain they're still behind the players -- prompting them to call a Friday meeting with coach Chris Cummins and team captain Jim Brennan to tip them about Saturday's protest and assure them the action was levelled at management. In attendance on Friday was director of business operations Paul Beirne, who'd helped foster the strong ties with an estimated 16,000 season-ticket holders since 2007, but listened to the three groups' complaints. On Saturday, most of the 500-strong Red Patch Boys didn't wear team colours, were noticably absent from their loud south stands perch at the start of the game, displayed a huge banner mocking MLSEL's losing sports properties and staged a Gate 3 protest after the 2-1 defeat to Los Angeles. The smaller NEE club, joined the RPB in hiding their red gear and walked out en masse after the national anthems. A mix of U Sector also participated in both actions.

Christiano Ronaldo is off to Real Madrid.

I'm happy for 2 reasons.

1. My rival team is now without their best player,

2. Just watching him in the last few years used to make me mad.

Adios!
