does anyone here get GolTV?

this year, there will be some 10 Toronto FC games on the channel and i am thinking of picking it up. I looked at their schedule so i know what leagues they show. My question to anyone who has the channel is more about stuff other than matches.

does it have recap / news shows? does it show highlites from other leagues around the world? Does it have analysis of other leagues? etc?

I don't know anything about GolTV

Is it available easily by every cable/satellite provider?

how much do you pay extra?

Is it hard to get like TSN2?

it's available to anyone. It's extra, but it's not expensive like Setanta. I will be switching to Bell so it won't cost me anything - it's one of the channels i am picking within my package.

anyways, anyone that gets GolTV: i would appreciate any feedback.

I have watched games online on GolTV, seems like a decent channel, but I cant really say anything about the it. I wouldnt spend a much money on it though, specially if you can watch it online.

GolTV is really a rip off of Fox Sports World. I had it for about 6-7 months. It's not a bad channel and I'd say is worth the 1.99 if you love footy.

do they have recap news shows, or week in review shows?

Specifically, do they show highlites of games from the EPL, french leagues, Italian leagues, Scottish leagues, etc?

I know they show la liga and bundesliga matches which is cool (but they also show lots of latin american soccer which i could care less about).

Ya i just read about that.

Fantastic news for Vancouver soccer fans although i must admit i feel bad for the montreal fans who got denied.

Its evident that Vancouver deserves a team and im sure it will add an immediate rivalry.

Problem that i have is with the whole home grown rules. You have to have so many "canadians" and can only have a few internationals (mathcing certain criteria) Can't remember exactly what the numbers are.

Anyways i wonder how that affects our TFC team going forward. I know they had an issue when our keeper went down....

Looks like MLS is going to have to change its views on whats considered homegrown talent for canadian teams. While i love the fact we keep a mainly canadian content the truth is we dont have as many good players to choose from.

Perhaps they can come up with a "north american" rule and give incentives to teams in canada to keep it more "Canadian" as well as those in America to keep it more American.

I believe the highlites of EPL and Scottish leagues are mostly done by Setanta. I don't remember seeing much of them. I do remember seeing some highlights of French and Italian games. It was often but I do remember some of it.

And I found the Latin American games the most interesting b/c the skill level being high.

that's cool. thanks Claudius.

I suppose it will be worth it for the TFC alone. La liga will be nice too.

I'd have to say it is a rip off of FSW which is an unbelievable channel. Serie A, recaps every night with a very good relatively unbiased English Anaylist.

Gol TV has TFC games because MLSE bought the channel. I guess its decent they have La Liga and BUndesliga games. SO if you have GOL TV, FSC, and SETANTA you basically have a decent footy lineup

Pretty stoked the Whitecaps are going to be joining the MLS, hope they play their cards right and get the right mix of players to tap the potential fanbase out here.
As for GOL tv, on the whole its a decent channel, theres a bunch of world cup qualifiers coming up in a couple of weeks and am hoping we get some of the international matches picked up, they did in the last bunch of games.
Other than the Bundesligia & La Liga the majority of games are sub standard South American affairs. The league round ups are definetly a disappointment on GOL, i would way rather catch fox sports report with Bobby M, the sky sports report on foxsportsworld is also one of the best to watch for league round ups.
By the way that was a damn good thrashing Man U got at the weekend, ha take that you wee diving Ronaldo you!

So looks like RAFA got a new 5 year deal

-check out skysports or whatever for the articles

A little premature in my opinion. Wait to you see how they finish the season in the league and champions league at least.

He hasnt won the premiership ever in his time at liverpool and to me thats concerning. Sure the competition is tough from Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal but if you want to be the best your going to have to beat them all to be a true champion.

Let's see what he has won:
-champions league in 2005 (and made it to the final two years ago). Not bad at all i have to give credit where is due
-FA Cup (05/06 campaign)
-UEFA Super Cup 2005 (oh wow what an honour)
-FA Community Shield 2006 (again who gives a shit about this).

It's not that he has a bad record at all. I just wonder if this is the guy that will take Liverpool to the dream land (a la Alex Ferguson for united). At some point not winning the league is just not good enough. You cant count on winning the champions league or finishing in top 4 to save your ass.

What irks me the most is that teams like liverpool, chelsea, arsenal should not even be in the champions league. Its a league of the best of the best.

How can you say liverpool or chelsea or arsenal deserves a shot at it because they finished 2nd, 3rd or 4th?

Blatter says the english play too many games in a season. Maybe the twat should cut down on what a "champion league" really should be, a competion of just the champions=less games!

Anywho, i'm all for Rafa getting a 1 year extension to prove that this year (which should have been their year in all honesty) was a fluke but 5 years come on!

Bring in the chosen one! haha

If your a hard core soccer fan you'll realize that MLS is a good lull until the big boys play. When you watch the firest 10 games u notice how dreadful it is becausel Europe teams are still playing and you are still watching.

You get used to it in the middle and as soon as its over you hop back on watching the big boys.

Thats the best way I can describe MLS

I'm happy Rafa will be with Liverpool for the future. my reasoning... he's just a good manager. This year specifically, i can't really fault him as to why the team is not doing better. He's a good tactician and runs a tight ship. He's not the one making the mistakes on the pitch. Furthermore, there was clearly a power struggle between Benitez and Parry in the past and seeing as Parry will be gone at season's end, i only have more hope for the future.

As for the MLS... i really don't think it's that bad, DVS. the games are pretty entertaining and the league certainly has players good enough to keep me watching. Of course there's a drop off compairing it to euro soccer, but it's still pretty good. It's certainly the best soccer that i've ever seen in North America in my lifetime, so i got nothing but love for the MLS.

I guess all I can say is thats your opinion. I find MLS dreadful at times esp TFC last year. I dunno I've been to about 5 games last year and a few the year before and I like it because I like hanging around some Footy fans every now and then. The MLS MVP is a retired Boca Junior. THe best stricker is Angel who always was injured his whole career and playing out the stretch.

I just have to disagree its a sellers league and if your under 25 and very talented your sold.

Well like i said, i think he has warranted another year but to give the guy a 5 year deal?

Honestly Basil?

As for the MLS. By far the best football we have ever seen in north america but far below many leagues of the world.

My beloved Leicester City were relegated to Coca Cola League 1 for this season and play far more attractive soccer then TFC.

That said, its going to take time for the MLS to grow. Right now, i'd play for less to be in europe where the potential to make a shit load more $ exists then stay here. Thats the way a lot of other players think.

Once we start getting that one extra player each year thats willing to stick it out things will turn around.

The crowds for a Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal team are there (at least in game support not so sure about tv ratings wise).

At least we are getting somewhere. we cant expect to have an EPL yet alone a SPL or La Liga over 5-10 years. Those leagues have been around for a very very very long time to get to where they have. Keep that in mind.

The only way MLS grows is for local talent to rise. Players usually stay loyal to

1. A local team

or

2. A super power team

You get more top flight Canadians and AMericans playing it will improve the league for sure
