And of course there are some very strong teams out there. They needed to wait till next season and those players would be ready to go. Now they're starting again.

50-50 on how the manager does, I agree. But usually, even if the manager isn't great, has dodgy tactics or other issues, just the fresh broom sweeping clean makes a huge difference. Psychology is huge in football I think, in all sports and a new manager often gives a morale boost, players play with freedom. I'm only talking 4 or 5 games, then the new regime starts to define itself.
It's been a full season + 16 games. He had to integrate the new players better and he failed, thus far. Yes they could've taken more time but it's clear that their board had higher expectations. Valencia did the same thing firing their coach - obviously different situation regarding finances but Valencia should not be where they are similar to how Spurs should not be where they are.

They should've been doing better and avb's position was certainly under scrutiny but the team was totally different, so I don't see how previous season is relevant, except to say that they did well last season and avb impressed. I'd have given him till the start of next season.

Still the same coach though. Although there were new players there were also a bunch of more players from the season b4 and he did worse than last season - at the current standings. Such is big game soccer in the big divisions though. I'd probably give him longer too.

I watched the full 90mins last night, couldn't watch it live and henderson was dominant, a superb performance. Took over the midfield, with lucas backing him up from deep and allen neat and tidy, keeping things moving. Those 3 worked extremely well together and took spurs' midfield out of the game.

I agree on the confidence thing but I think he's been extremely consistent this season. You can't really think about the fee; that spending spree was terrible but we now have a player who is worthy of playing for us and plays with a passion and will that can not be ignored. I'm starting to value him as highly as lucas.

and closer to home, Dero is back with TFC. I think this is just great if for no other reason than it fixes a burned bridge. I hope he has something left in the tank (he should)... but it actually looks like TFC is building a solid core *before the season starts* unlike every other year in their existance.

Suarez has signed a new contract!

I'm not naive, I know he could well end up at real but now we get maximum value for him or we keep him long-term. If we can make top 4 and keep gradually improving our squad we can keep suarez and become a very strong team.

Good good. I really hope he doesn't come to Real. He should stay @ Liverpool and help the cause there.

Well not sure how I feel about avb. Obviously something wasn't clicking but at the same time it wasn't a train wreck. But the fact that we couldn't do well against some top teams I suppose was a worry. I just feel if it had to be done the decision should have been made after the christmas frenzy of games.

Honestly I'm just feeling a tad uneasy about levy. Apparently avb didn't want 4/6 of the players signed. Now I haven't done enough reading into that to see if it's some garbage tabloid anti spurs bullshit or legitimate, but if it is legitimate it's a huge worry.

Over the last 2 or 3 seasons I have read and seen things that make levy look very dodgy. He seems like a control-freak, ego-maniac. Don't like him.

I've always been a fan of his, simply because he dug us out of the financial shit hole we were in before ENIC. however that being said, I'm having my doubts. ENIC is a me first sort of company, which is fair in today's world, but there's more to soccer success than financial prudence. Like any investment, the higher the risk, or beta, the higher the possible reward. I think they're being too conservative, considering we haven't had a net positive spending in years

I caught the Liverpool game on the weekend and my oh my were they fun to watch for about 45 - 55 minutes. They really extended the pitch and it was just beautiful to watch. When Suarez and Coutinho attacked the defence you really saw the Cardiff players just panic.

The final third of the game, to me at least, exposed the side's weakness and that's defence (and really, that's the story of the entire EPL this year with all the team's in contention, which is why it's so fascinating to watch). If Liverpool can strengthen the back four and pick up some depth in the transfer window they could, *could* win the league this year.

****

Big game today v. Chelsea for Arsenal. I really liked what we showed v. Man City last weekend even though we lost. As long as we bring that same fire, passion and intensity I think we could pick up three today.

That said, I could see Chelsea trying to make this an ugly, plodding game after their recent form.

Will see.

Defence is definitely our problem but we don't need more depth there (maybe you meant squad in general?) in defence we have skrtel, agger, toure, sakho and the unused, highly rate illori. That is the best strength in depth in defence in europe right now imo.

I'm so frustrated in our defence man, it's individual mistakes, every time. Like the hull game; skrtel played really well in that game but made 2 mistakes leading to goals! So annoying. Other players guilty of this too.

I don't think we'll win the league. My eyes are still very much focussed on 4th.

Meant the squad in general in regards to depth. I'm not sold on Toure either as a long-term (beyond this season) solution.

I honestly don't know who will win the league.

City's away form is terrible, their back four is suspect and I'm not sold on the squad beyond Aguerro.

Arsenal, well the list can go on and on but they need a true, number 9 that can push Giroud as an alternate 9.

Everton, intriguing, but I question their depth as well.

Chelsea have reverted to playing ugly football and Mourinho looks like he wants to be front and centre again (seriously, can anyone come up with a sane reason as to why Mata is not playing? He was their best player last season.)?

Man U is a mess under Moyes and lack confidence.

Really, it's a pick'em between those teams all with glaring flaws. Such a fascinating season.

And then at the bottom I really don't want to see Palace or West Ham go down simply based on the sentimental value as my old boss was a massive Hammers fan and her dad grew up a Palace fan.

So spurs not in the title mention, but man-u and Everton are? See this is why I fucking loathe arsenal fans when it comes to talking bout the sport
