Brendan Rodgers believes dull coaches are holding back English players | Football | theguardian.com

so glad to hear rodgers is talking my language. waddle, hoddle and barnes are 3 completely wasted talents, (in terms of international football.)

the problem is not talent, despite the pathetic amount of english players playing in the prem. We are still producing very good young players. wilshire, sturridge, welbeck, smalling, jones, townsend, walker, gibbs, barkley. Plus the U21 side is strong, with players that should be playing more, but are still appearing in the prem and showing potential. LFC alone has wisdom, sterling and kelly.

the problem is coaching. We have the wrong footballing culture (passion, work-rate,) and the wrong tactics. I read an article last year saying germany had something like 4 times more uefa a-level coaches, 6-7 times more b-level coaches and over 10 times more C-level coaches! better culture and WAAAAYYYYY more good coaches! no wonder they far out-perform us.

we produce loads of good footballers because we are a huge footballing hotbed. our kids love football, and see good football in their country. It's what happens next that is the problem! They come to football with the wrong messages, (but still loads of talent,) and then get coached poorly, and start falling behind, AND then badly managed with the national team. disaster!

I agree with a lot of what you said. I've heard that no English coach has won the BPL, which is pretty bad.

The other issue is how teams do not have enough English players. Too many players are bought instead of developed and the minimum amount of home-grown players is too small. I've heard it's 8 but I'm not sure. Anywho, in the BPL/EPL that number is misconstrued as they can be from the UK ie not just England and they also can be homegrown if they have played in an Under whatever side for the squad. Thus, that decreases the amount of English players even further.

the quota is 8. they're considered home grown if they play a minimum of 3 years for an english club before they turn 21. so at the latest join a club the day they turn 18

again tho, the "not enough good young english players playing in the prem" argument is true, BUT missing the point. It's a factor, but we're still seeing plenty of good young players coming through. The england squad is relatively young, and it's a good side. Not one of the best, but should be able to rival all but 3 or 4 of the very best sides.

it's coaching, through the age groups AND once they make it to senior sides, that is the problem.

Could not agree more. For years & years I've watched England play and said to myself... "WTF? How are they THIS bad? They have so many talented players!"

Tactics & coaching are the #1 problem for sure.

Nice to see Croatia got its coaching sorted out.

While I agree with the move, I don't know how Stimac got the job in the first place.

Barca draw, Atletico lost and Real won with Morata starting at CF (would've been a trashing if not for one of the best goalkeeping displays in recent memory - yet Willy Caballero still hasn't been called up to the Argentinian national team).

Fiorentina complete a comeback 4-2 win vs Juventus.

pzabby is just a butthurt spuds fan, pay no attention to him. regarding the benz rumour, i really hope that's not true as we would be grossly overpaying for him.

and when you're already thin number of defensive minded players get injured and you drop points like no tomorrow because relegation teams will score on you for fun, i'll still be laughing. it's a sprint, not a marathon.

oh and by the way, you're 3 points ahead of us, with a game we played against you, in the emirates, in which a number of important players were injured for us and to which many unbiased viewers noted that we outplayed you regardless.

but I don't need to say anything. after this coming stretch, we shall see who is above who in the table. remember, we've currently played one more top 4 vying team than you have, and came out of it with a draw. let's see how you do when the big boys come to play

as for the benzema rumours, not a fooking chance. madrid wouldn't sell their only established senior number 9 in january, nor would wanker spend another 50 million this year
