i don't rate it much as a competition but it's been taken a lot more seriously in recent years. There were a few years of some very low-key finals and the big teams playing their kids and going out early, but in recent years it has been back to the big teams in the finals.

The other 3 big leagues (Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga) don't have an extra cup competition. Teams don't go all out as they would for other competitions and why would they? Risk getting players injured and missing more important competitions. Of course for some teams it means a lot more considering they might not win anything else or even having a chance of winning something else.

Lamela to spurs done. Announced by Roma. We've been allowed to talk to eriksen. And chiriches is almost done. At this point in time, these three signings would be decent if bale were to go. Eriksen isn't as good as Willian right now, but he's ooozing potential. Could be as good if nor better in a year.

Right, ok, so bale's agent saying he was desperate to go to real, countless articles saying bale had told spurs he wants the move, spurs leaving him off their twitter, real reserving no.11, bale not coming to training, spurs considering fining him and avb criticising him was enough to convince pzabby that he might move!? Sorry pzabby, couldn't resist. I know it was never definite but it's been so obvious he would probably move all summer. Just because it's a scenario that's been played out so many times.

And as i've said all along, spurs will end up better out of all of this anyway.

i don't know which arsenal forums you've been in, but people have been pretty negative about wenger and their team for about 3 years now! They moan like you are. They don't realise that they have been given an amazing stadium (bloody quiet tho!) and champs league football every year. As fans go, they're pretty damn lucky.

and winning the league cup or FA cup is nice, but the reality is, and personally i don't agree with this, that CL qualification is way important than winning one of those. Ask spurs or liverpool which they'd rather.
I know Chelsea/Man U/City will always spend more than the rest of the EPL but the reality is the Gunners do a lot of value buying to sell later. They don't buy to improve their team but to make a buck later. This route they will never have that edge ever.

i don't agree that arsenal have specifically bought to sell. But the amount of times they've improved a player, got a massive fee for them and then they haven't done as well at the new club is uncanny. anelka, overmars, petit, vieria, fabregas.

people will say you can't be a selling club and be successful, i'm not sure i agree. My current obsession is actually dortmund, not arsenal. The only reason i keep going on about arsenal is coz i think people are being very narrow minded and hysterical about their situation right now. Dortmund is the club to be copying right now. They sold goetze, used the money to buy very wisely and then just promoted another couple of young players, who've slipped seamlessly into the team.

Mario who? How Borussia Dortmund have shrugged off the loss of Goetze | Pitchside Europe - Yahoo! Eurosport UK

it might come down to a similar argument to the one that keeps coming up on the raps board about tanking. Is it ok to merely be perennially strong and competing or is it contending or bust? There's no such thing as tanking in football but you see my point, what level of "success" is acceptable. If arsenal spend their money well there's no reason why they can't be very strong in the champs league. Winning the premiership may be a stretch too far, but they should be a very strong team.

Wow, I write all that, and reduce it to this? I made allowance in my point for how the sports are different. My point was about expectation. Making the playoffs and winning are comparable to qualifying for champs league and winning something.

Yes, arsenal and dortmund are different. Are u incapable of drawing similarities between things that overall are different? Both teams have been forced to sell their best players and question marks are being raised as to whether they can continue to be competitive. That's the similarity I find relevant.

i wouldn't call that an easy group for barca at all! The 2nd seed team is pretty acceptable but they got pretty much the hardest 3rd and 4th seeds they could!

chelsea, wow, so lucky. Man city will finally make the knockout stages! And dortmund get totally screwed again! (arsenal too.) the seedings are totally shit man, 5 years it goes back! and equal weighting as you go back further and further. LFC still ranked 17th best team in europe! we haven't been in CL for years!

I didn't feel like writing a lot. Also, I was referring to The Raps and basketball/the nba vs Arsenal and futbol.

Also Raps = spending irresponsibly while Arsenal always do phenomenal in the market. I understand what you're saying about winning, etc but Raps and Arsenal are two vastly different clubs. Also, I edited my previous post - cutting some of your quote.

Great gif!

Obv an impossible draw for celtic but they get some huge nights at home and they've made a habit of winning them.

The seedings are fucked man. I didn't say before (the link I provided explains it,) ur country co-efficient affects ur seeding as well and scotland's is shit. Don't know what celtic would have to do to improve theirs. It's that old g14 group, even tho it supposedly disbanded, protecting their interests.

lol @ Group F: OM and Arsenal took the worst combination possible.

Group E seems already written, while the H one will be the most funny one
