christiano is a force to be reckoned with, but having 2 star calibre players... that's a pretty good option too.

i'm not huge on van der vaart, but villa is incredible.

they can't really go wrong either way.

Well counting that they are asking 80 million for Cristiano theres actually a lot to lose for a player that has proben that he doesnt respect that much the teams he plays in.

Well the revenue money alone cristiano would bring in is insane. Its a pure money move...they will bring more money in then what they pay for him either way in the long run.

That said, way too much to pay for a player. I mean if you can get van der vaart and villa for less then ronaldo you are in much better shape.

Theres no way Ronaldo scores as many goals in Spain as he does in england..its a different game and to be quite honest with you someone in Spain will chop his ass down..say what u want about english footy, it can be rough but in spanish soccer is full of dirty tackles too.

Anywho...... who knows if Ronaldo will even go..this whole situation is pissing me off ..Pure tampering on behalf of Real AND Sepp Blatter and his stupid comments. Id let him rot on the bench in utd if i were manchester. You signed a deal, honour it.

that said united is just as guilty with tapping other players...alot of clubs are. I'd like to see massive fines for players and clubs.

This is how i see it. If im real madrid and im asked about Ronaldo, all i can say is he is a great player who woudlnt want him...done...u say it one time and thats it. You say it more then once fine period.

If players want to quit clubs 1 year into a 4 or 5 year deal this is what i say happens....Sure, u can force ur club to trade u but ur not allowd to make more then 1 million per season for the rest of the contract u signed with the original club plus u lose all that money....Its time we cut out the shit..either that or just dont allow long term contracts.

Canadian women's soccer team beats Argentina

SPORTS REPORTER

TIANJIN – Canada’s debut in Olympics women’s soccer will go down as a success.

In their first appearance ever on such a grand stage, Canada beat Argentina 2-1 here Wednesday evening in the first competitive event of the Beijing Games.

Goals by Candace Chapman in the 27th minute and Kara Lang in the 71st gave Canada a comfortable margin and allowed the Canadians to withstand an 85th minute counter by Argentina’s Ludmila Manicler before about 20,000 fans in the 60,000-seat Tianjin Olympic Stadium.

Appearing in the Olympics for the first time ever, Canada controlled the play for almost the entire game and were full value for the win.

The game was played in stifling heat, with temperatures of about 35 C at kickoff; strength-sapping humidity and under a cloud of grey, polluted, stagnant air that’s been the trademark of the run-up to the Games.

The first goal was set up by a huge blast from Christine Sinclair that was just deflected wide of the post to give Canada a corner.

After Rhian Wilkinson’s corner was deflected back towards half, Chapman stepped into a right-footed shot from about 35 metres and hit nothing but the back of the net for her fifth goal with the national team.

The clinching goal was brilliant, with Wilkinson taking a free kick from about 30 metres that Lang headed on spectacularly from about 15 metres out in the 71st minute.

Canada had a huge size advantage over the Argentines and used it often. The backline of Chapman, Emily Zurrer, Martine Franko and Wilkinson simply over-powered the Argentine attack and Canada won nearly every ball in the air up front.

The win is huge boost for Canada’s hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the 12-country tournament. There are three four-team pools in the tournament with the top two in each pool qualifying for the quarter-finals along with the two best third-place teams.

Canada faces China here on Saturday and completes its first-round on Tuesday in Beijing against Sweden.

The victory did not come without a cost, though; Melissa Tancredi, a key forward and Canada’s most physical presence on the front line, left after just 41 minutes with an apparent left ankle injury. She was knocked down in the penalty area in front of the Argentina goal in about the 19th minute, left the pitch for a few minutes to have the ankle treated and returned. But the injury became too much to handle about 10 minutes later and she left the game for good.

We stand a great chance to medal in soccer at the Olympics. Canada's women's program is top notch.

So Ronaldo has manned up and taken the blame upon himself for the debacle between Real Madrid and Manchester United. Shows some class and maturity there which impresses me.

In other news, I just read that Freddie Ljundberg was released from his West Ham commitments. I wonder if he would join TFC?

So for all the TFC fans out there, what do you think of the Argos coming into BMO and trying to make it a football stadium. I personally think it's a dumb idea, unless somehow they decide to put real grass in there. I still don't understand that decision to not put real grass in an outdoor stadium.

woah, woah.

Is it "official"? I know that the argos have been talking about this for some time, but as far as i know it's been all talk. There has been no mention of who is paying for the expansion, no mention of any concrete plans. Personally, I think it will be a real shame if this was to ever happen.
A real shame.

BTW, I can tell you why there's no grass, but turf. Firstly, the stadium is city owned and they rent it out in the winter (the bubble dome goes up once it gets cold). The city considers it a source of income. Now the problem is that most big name players don't want to play on turf - hence TFC has trouble signing a lot of players and the turf is really the only reason. It's also why the national team doesn't play the bulk of its games there.

I don't know CG, its works for the Alouettes in Montreal at McGill stadium and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think its artificial turf too. I think a smaller venure instead of the Rogers Centre would be better anyways for the Argos. Make it a little more intimidating when you can fill a stadium of 15,000 as oppose to 50,000.

Honestly, this would be TERRIBLE for Toronto FC and for soccer in toronto.
I pray it doesn't happen.

I don't like saying nasty things, but Fuck the Argos. Fuck'em. you had many opportunities to get your stadium in the past, and you never did. So fuck off, play in the skydome, stay out of what was supposed to be the National soccer stadium, and fuck off!!!!

Woah ... alot of pent up anger fancy ... I like it.

I can't stand that BMO is artificial turf. The new Saputo Stadium in Montreal is a true soccer stadium. (By Canadian standards that is) I hope that BMO eventually head in that direction too.

The problem with the Argos is that they had a chance to enter into a few deals with TFC and they backed out at the last second. The fact that they now want to enter and essentially piggy back off the success of TFC. I agree with fancy on the Argos; it's poorly run organization that's always looking for the cheapest way to succeed.

As for the turf thing, I wasn't aware that it was used in the winter time. I guess they don't realize how much greater of a product they could have by just adding a little greenery.

And no, it's not finalized, but there are bigger rumblings.

who cares about the argos, there gonna get a NFL team soon anyways haha. Go Ticats!

As for the artificial turf...from the moment they said they were gonna put that crappy fake grass in i was a little annoyed. I mean as a soccer player myself, i would never ever want to play on that shit. It's not good on the knees and the bounces are ridiculous. I know this "fake grass" is better then the typical football turf but it still blows chunks.

How can you expect this stadium to be a national one with fake surface? Stupid Canadian wankas, put in some real grass!!!

I agree Jatt. Anyone with even the slightest of knee problems would be turned off by it in a heartbeat.

In other news, anyone else excited for the Premiership starting this weekend?

Go Gunners!
