De Guzman, who was the Canadian men's player of the year in 2008, reportedly has been mulling over an offer to be TFC's first designated player, with the price tag at $10 million (all figures U.S.) for three years. A shorter deal, said to be six figures for the rest of this season, has also been rumoured.

It's strange. As of now, i don't think he is really what the team needs.

But then if Guevara won't be back next year, JDG would be huge in Toronto.

Still, i think Julian should do what he can to play in a good league in Europe next year. It would be best for his career. Maybe Bundelsiga.

Julian should be signed just to make MLS more watchable
and add some grass
its very hard watching them kick the ball around and lose it
can't keep possession for more than 30 seconds

From cnn.com
Quote:
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Midfielder David Beckham has told CNN "you can't be liked by everybody" after being involved in a confrontation with unhappy supporters in his first home fixture for the Los Angeles Galaxy since returning from his spell on loan with AC Milan.

The former England captain attempted to jump over a barrier as he left the field at half-time into a section of the crowd that had been jeering him.

Beckham was held back by security staff, members of whom were also needed to restrain an angry fan who left his seat and rushed towards the midfielder.

The 34-year-old later told CNN that he was unaffected by the incident. Has the Beckham experiment in the U.S failed?

"At the end of the day you can't be liked by everybody," said Beckham. "There was going to be a certain amount of that, everybody knew about it and a lot of people predicted it -- and they weren't let down.

"These things happen, but the majority of the fans were incredible tonight not just to me but the team as well."

Beckham received a less than friendly welcome at his first home game after returning from five months with AC Milan -- the team the Galaxy faced on Sunday.

A hardcore section of the crowd booed Beckham every time he touched the ball and held aloft signs reading "Go Home Fraud" and "23: Repent" in reference to his shirt number.

Another read: "Hey Becks, Here Before You, Here after You, Here Despite You" while one stated: "Is evil something u are - or something u do?"

Earlier this year, Beckham indicated he wanted to stay in Milan rather than return to America, stating that the standard of play was far higher in Italy.

The apparent snub has angered some Galaxy fans, notably a hardcore that sit in the so-called LA Riot Squad section. Throughout the first half of the game he was subjected to jeers and obscene chants.

After the referee blew for half-time, Beckham tried to hurdle an advertising boarding and appeared to make a "come on" gesture towards fans. In response, one man left his seat, jumped down on to the pitch and attempted to run towards Beckham.

At this point security intervened and escorted Beckham to the changing room, while removing the fan from the pitch.

Despite the incident, Beckham returned in the second half. He was the last man to take to the pitch and hugged several of his former Milan teammates before gesturing towards the rowdy section of the crowd. A line of yellow-jacketed security staff stood below the supporters in the trouble area as a precaution.

On the pitch, Beckham had a hand in both Galaxy goals, scored by Alan Gordon and Bryan Jordan, as they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with the Rossoneri. Thiago Silva and Filippo Inzaghi scored for Milan.

After the second Galaxy goal, Beckham turned and shrugged his shoulders in the direction of the section that had been jeering him.

The former Manchester United star was substituted after 75 minutes and walked off to a mixture of cheers and boos. On the boos, Beckham said: "It's to be expected. Sometimes it goes beyond it. The majority of the fans have been great."
Haha this made me laugh.

I do think Beckham has been half ass at LA but the fact of the matter is he is too good for this league and knows it.

Beckham has a few seasons left in him at a higher level before he should have come to the US.

Beckham=FAiled experiment for the MLS. Accept it, move on and let him join Milan.

I think it's hilarious that the first team he faced in LA was his other team.

As for him joining AC Milan full time.... great. sure he should go. It would be the best for all parties involved, but at the same time, AC Milan has to pony up some cash for that to happen.

They weren't willing to do it before, so maybe they don't want him bad enough.

Watching Real right now. Cristiano is impressive, he is doing a lot of fancy stuff, but thinking that this is a friendly, dude is working like hell.

I remember the first time I saw him play. It was a friendly. Sporting - Man Utd.
I don't know why but it was broadcasted live but it was and he played awesome. It was amazing. Just like you said, he worked like it was the world Cup final. I think he was 17 at the time. Sporting won convincingly and a couple of weeks later Fergie bought him.

So if all of liverpool's players were traded for all of man city's players.. you'd still cheer for liverpool?

That doesn't really make sense. Not to mention guys who play on national teams they u hate (let's say u hate england or spain) have gerrard or torres on liverpool... so how do you cheer for them in club comp and cheer against them in international comp? (this happened for me with deco and carvalho on chelsea)

It is a player's league.

And as for becks. They can boo him LA all they want.. he's a god among boys there. His 2 assists yesterday shut the crowd up enough. I was watching that game yesterday.. AC just kept on feeding ronaldinho and LA had no one that could even come close to gaurding him. Inzaghi at 95 years old is still faster than LA's defence lol it was sad.

Maybe Terry will get injured and they will re-instate becks as captain of england !

First of all that is a ridiculous scenario that would never happen so i won't even get into it. But i'll say this. I've supported Liverpool for years and players have come and gone yet my bond with the club stays the same. Am i supposed to like Roma now because John Arne Riise plays there? Now THAT doesn't make sense.

Also, do you tell me that you cheer for some countries in international play just because certain players play on them? if so, wow.

I love Steven Gerrard, but I don't ever hope England do well. I would never cheer for England just because of Gerrard. Anyways, i'm part French for fucks sakes - lol.

Yes I do like countries for their players. India has not been in the world cup for a while and the last time they were.. they were disqualified because they didn't wear the right shoes and fifa wouldnt allow it.

My dad followed soccer way way way back in the days. But I supported Beckham since his earliest days at man united. Since then i've been an england fan. I started cheering for Chelsea when Ferguson disrespected Becks even though he was nominated for World player of the Year and they won the treble (yes, they had other good players as well).

Portugal beat england in shootouts twice (beckham's miss and then the second time he was out). I hate Christiano Ronaldo for pleading for Rooney to be kicked out. And now I hate him... I hate Portugal (deco etc.) and I hate every team ronaldo plays for because I hate him so much.

For me... since club players come and go.. it's hard to hate a team for buying players. And because douchebag players play for a team that you would have liked otherwise.. it's a player's league for me.

Chelsea up 2-0 vs. Inter Milan right now at the World Challenge in California. Drogba scored in the 11th minute and Lampard scored early in the second half. 56th minute passing right now.

Good semifinal match in the Gold Cup between Mexico and Costa Rica. IMO Los Ticos controlled the tempo for most of the match, though there were times when the Mexicans showed why they've had Costa Rica's number over the last several years. Just when everybody was ready to call the game for the Mexicans, Los Ticos pulled off a stunning equalizer with 10 seconds to go in added time to notch it up at 1-1!!! No goals from either side in extra time. Mexico ended winning 5-3 on penalty kicks.

Hopefully the Mexicans can use this victory as momentum to defeat the favourites USA in the finals on Sunday. However, if they play like they did in the semifinals they really don't have much of a chance against the US. Should be a good match though!

By the way if there are any TFC fans reading this BMO field has released extra tickets for the CONCACAF Champions League game against the Puerto Rico Islanders on wednesday. Come out and support the team!!!

i'll be there. really looking forward to it.

As for the Gold cup. The save off the penalty by the Costa Rican defender (during the actual game) was amazing. to dive and flat out catch the ball like that was very impressive.

the Mexican fans were pretty disrespectful though with all the beer throwing. too bad.

frankly, i hate this tournament and this confederation as a Canadian. It sucks being a Canadian soccer supporter.

The Ibra-Eto'o deal has been finalized. All they need now are the players signatures.

I will probably get an Ibrahimovic jersey too

I honestly dont know why Barca are also giving up 48million euros as well. For 30, i would understand. But this is almost 50million euros + Eto'o who is an amazing striker.
