Canada is having a pretty good gold cup run. We finished the group play at the top of our group and will play hondouras in the quarter finals on saturday.

Honduras, like some other teams, is fielding a lesser sqaud as they are still in qorld cup qualifying.

I think Canada should advance.

i caught the score's ticker saying that Tevez has signed with Manchester City. Don't know what to make of that team. Hopefully they contunue to have poor chemistry.

Another knock to Man united. Do they plan on replacing him/Ronaldo with anyone (besides Owen?)

Fergie already said he wasn't spending another dime this off-season, and I don't blame him, what teams are requesting for transfer fees are ridiculous.

Word is they (along with Chelsea) put in a Torres bid that was rejected. Benitez said as much, but didn't name the club.

I was never Tevez's biggest fan so i don't think he'll be too hard to replace. I like the Valenica signing, and Hargreaves will be like a new signing if he comes back healthy next season. If they can get one more striker who's fine with being part of a 4 man rotation, they'll probably call it a summer.

yeah, this is true. But he's said this in the past, last season for example, and he ended up signing Berbatov at the transfer deadline.

Tevez works extremely hard for 90 minutes, sprinting all the way. And that's the kind of player u need beside robinho who puts in a bit of magic once every 10 minutes.

Hopefully city can beat out Arsenal for the 4th spot and a spot in champs league 2011

lol.

That's one transfer (torres to united) that would (and should) never happen. EVER. Not even for Ronaldo money.

Tevez passed his medical and was unvieled as a city player already. Wearing his number 32 shirt as well.

Tevez is a work horse type player. He busts his ass (like hargreaves) and is the type of player any team would love to have. I think United will regret not having this guy around but it appears as though the decision to keep him wasnt all up to them. Tevez wanted to leave bottom line as he felt he wasnt respected by Sir Alex.

As for transfer fees. If UEFA and FIFA or the EU cannot see this as a huge disaster to the game of footy now, then they never will. It was bad before this summer but just went B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

I dont blame sir Alex for not spending too much. It's about time players stop signing long contracts and then bolting before the contract is even over. You sign a 5 year contract, you stick to it.

Salary caps are needed to increase competition for the whole domestic league. Gee, whose going to win the premiership this year? (Chelsea, United, Liverpool, Man U or possibly Arsenal?). How about fulham or villa or tottenham? No chance as usual. Makes me wonder why they bother playing in the premier league.

My rant is over.

I appreciate what Tevez did at United, but he was grossly overvalued at 30 million quid. That money should get you a striker that's actually mastered the art of the first touch, and he wouldn't need to run around nearly as much if he had a proper ft. Playing the ball into his feet was a disaster waiting to happen half the time. But he was a workhorse so everyone gave him a pass, while the better player (Berba) got shat on.

I've always like the idea of a salary cap in football jatt, but it's illegal under EU law, no? And if it were to be implemented, what's stopping players from going to the middle east? Or Brazil etc..? It would be such a headache if you'd have to get every single footballing nation involved.

As for playing in middle east... i just dont see players going there...sure people would to make some $$ but i think some people underestimate how "at home" alot of football players can be.

players go to the middle east before they retire for one last fat contract. I believe Figo went there b4 he retired... and Juninho just left Lyon for a middle eastern club say the reports.

Lyon is going to be crap next year !

Why are they giving up on Eto'o? They could've just sold him to Man City.

Also, why all the love for Ibrahimovic? This only makes sense if they're going for Villa and I haven't paid any attention to that one in awhile.

The villa deal is pretty much dead. Valencia rejected the Barca bid of like 40 mill plus 2 players on loan. Also, Man City gave up on trying to get Etoo. His price tag is like 29mill. Ibrahimovic is around 70mill. So thats why its gonna cost so much for Ibrahimovic. Also Etto wants 13mill/season and Barca arent going to give him that much so they rather get rid of him before his contract expires next season. The deal isnt finalized yet, there are reports that it is almost done, but it hasnt been completed yet. If it does happen, im sad to see Etto go, he was part of the team during some of its best years. Great soccer player and i hope he does well in Inter.

He was the third best striker in Europe last season imo; definitely had a better season than Ibra.

Inter got a lot stronger with this deal and they could be a player in the CL next year.
